One of the captures I've made at St.Petersburg Festival of light and videoinstallations back in 2018. This year it became bigger and has moved out of the city, so that I wasnt able to visit it, sadly. But I still cherish my last year photos and remember the happening! (At the moment I was restricted to a 1.8 version of 50-mm lens, others were in the repair process, so...)
I took my 9 y.o. babygirl to look at the festival, and we got loads of fun. Obviously, I didnt focus on getting perfect shots (it was a walk-out for my baby, not me!) but I think I nailed some things what were happening.
the part of the park was illuminated with thousands of light bulbs. very cool sight! I wish they could do the same not only within the festivals... a lot of people enjoyed this location very much, later it was overcrowded like hell -- 30 mins later it was already impossible to shoot the scene like I did, it was a packed crowd all over the place, every one was taking pics :P
The territory was fenced, at all entrances the police posts monitored the incoming walkers for any bottles (vodka, beer, and even water! -- everything was seized). Such violence is absolutely typical here in Russia.
there was a full solid Moon there! everyone was trying to touch it and take the pics, while security regularly swiped away all the volunteers :)) on the second evening they created a fence around it, so nobody could touch the Moon anymore :/
a dozen of separate pavillions, each with different installations... we tried to check as many as we could, tho it was not easy due to the crowds...
a separate pavillion had a show of six robots synchronously dancing to a techno tune. very impressive! we spend there almost 30 mins on the rail.
...and the merch. of course, there was some! this little girl persuaded her Mom to obtain a pair of glowing ears... (the trash constanly wants to expand, as Philip Dick wisely noted in one of his novells... so you have to control it all of the time, to limit its expansion into your life. heh...)
Half a dozen of gigantic Moon Hares were definitely one of the highlights of the evening. On the 2nd evening I did a proper capture.
ok, the main event of the evening was a 3D light show, very intresting! a lot of space-themed projections, drones, lazers, etc. I managed to made some shots with my 50-mm... not sure, tho, how much did I capture of that beauty...
but at least you will get the impression ... the scale of event.

Of course, she has yet to learn to shoot using a manual shutter speed of 1/2 second, but this is a matter of the future!

If I tried to shoot at 1/2 second shutter speed handheld, it would look a lot worse than that, so I won't criticize. :-D

people enjoyed it, but suffered of some 'organizing issues'.
btw -- one may shoot nightly plots like this with high ISO and b-w mode -> then, one will not need such a long exposures

Really interesting light displays. Love the moon especially. Always wanted to visit St. Petersburg. The parks and monuments have an old time flair I really enjoy.
oh! if you gonna visit it one day, I can give you a few guides/directions what should not be missed. better time to visit is may-june-july, otherwise its too rainy, and lack of the sun and daylight.... the weather really sucks here :P

I do not really like noisy events, but sometimes it’s fun. Son at one time was fond of laser technology. He continues this now. There are interesting effects.
