The flytraps are carnivorous plant, animals needed :) , did you check if they might have been undergoing a stage called "dormancy", they turn black at this stage and might seem dead, anyway the Venus flytrap is such a wonder of the plant world, I appreciate you read this piece :)
Oh god, I hope I didn't throw them out while they were dormant :/
