It is my desire to understand the phenomena that govern our lives. I have sought to satisfy my questions and share them, as surely many of you have.
In this opportunity my interest has been focused on Magnetic Monopoles.
The existence of natural magnetic monopoles has not been verified. It is really intriguing that nature refuses to show the existence of these monopoles. But in turn, it is equally intriguing that electrical charges are presented to us as naturally as isolated charges.
The divergence of the electric flow of electric charges was verified experimentally by Faraday and mathematically formalized by Gauss.
This law of Gauss expresses that:
The electric flow that crosses any closed surface is proportional to the electric charge enclosed.
In this way positive electric charges are identified as sources or with divergence of positive electric flow, and negative electric charges as sinks or with divergence of negative electric flow.
This isolated behavior for the magnetic case is not fulfilled or has not been observed in a natural way and was accepted by classical physics, being a topic of interest for quantum mechanics, which seeks to verify its existence.
Since the magnetic flux lines are closed and do not end in a magnetic charge, the Gaussian law of magnetism states given the observations that:
The total magnetic flux through any closed surface is zero.
This is the point of my main question, IS THE FACT THAT WE CAN NOT SEE IT MEANS THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST?
Maxwell's equations support this postulate about magnetic flux and form part of one of its four main equations. All electromagnetic phenomena are based on these classical laws.
And the question arises. What would be the consequences of the existence of magnetic monopoles for electromagnetism as we know it so far?
The non-existence of magnetic monopoles only breaks the DUALITY in Maxwell's equations?
The only solution would be to modify or add to these laws a magnetic charge density (ρm) and therefore a magnetic current density (Jm) as some scientists have proposed and nothing has happened here?
In my opinion it is not so simple, the existence of these monopoles would involve reformulating, if not all electromagnetism, a large part of it and also reconsidering many of the results already obtained where we have not considered their contribution.
Perhaps the contribution of this magnetic charge density (ρm) is so small that its effect in the classical models is negligible and something similar occurs to what happens in macroscopic analyzes where the planck constant is obviated.
The renowned Physicist Paul M. Dirac in 1931 (Quantised Singularities in the Electromagnetic Field) in his quest to explain why there is a minimum electrical charge, found that the mere existence of at least one monopole in the universe would suffice to explain the quantization of the electric charge. In his research he introduces his string theory to explain the existence of these monopoles.
Researchers from the University of Aalto (Finland) and Amherst College (USA) have created a synthetic magnetic monopole using a Bose-Einstein condensate at temperatures close to absolute zero.
Other experiments such as MoEDAL (Monopoles and Exotics Detector At LHC) are in search of these magnetic monopoles proposed by Dirac.
It is to be expected that if this synthetic monopole research is conclusive, it will lead us to the mathematical models that in this particle prevail, being these models equivalent to that of natural monopoles. Permitting in turn to determine its impact on the laws of electromagnetism.
In the past we have managed to decipher the mysteries that nature presents to us.
This will not be the exception.
