Coming Changes Nov 16 2016

Rules Per Accounts

Coming soon you will be able to set voting rules on a per account bases. The global rules will be copied to each account before this change. The other change will be that free account's rules will be limited to a number based on the Steem Power you add to the system. We will give you time to edit your list and purchase unlimited before we cut the list to the limit but if you are at or past the limit, you will not be able to add new rules for that account.

This is to limit abuse by many people adding several low SP accounts with many many global rules that run our system to the max voting and checking all these rules. This is a free service and because of it, it is easy to abuse. So we will be limiting this abuse this way.

We will be adding the ability to have unlimited rules on a per accounts bases for a small fee. More detail about this later but we are currently thinking of 0.3 SBD per month per account or 3 SBD per year.

The number of rules that will be available might change, but for now this is it:

  • 50 SP or less -> 3 available rules
  • 100 SP or less -> 5 available rules
  • 500 SP or less -> 10 available rules
  • 1000 SP or less -> 25 available rules
  • 5000 SP or less -> 50 available rules
  • 10000 SP or less -> 100 available rules
  • 50000 SP or less -> 200 available rules
  • over 50000 SP -> 500 available rules

Also, voting power and account Steem Power will not be automatically updated. You will need to manually update these on a per account bases in the future. If you want our system to recognize the higher SP and add to the available rules, you will need to click on the update SP button, and if you want to see your voting power, you will need to click on update voting power button.

Whales

We are also going to add a feature where whales will be able to join our site and limit how much voting power we use of theirs on voting on our own blogs and posts.

The thought is that for every 100k SP you can reduce the voting power SteemVoter.com uses by 10%. So if you have 100k SP you can limit SteemVoter.com to only using 90% of your voting power, 200k SP 80%, and so on. The limit will be 10% as the minimum.

To Grow

All these changes should make a better SteemVoter.com and improve our profitability to allow more users to use our service.

Once we are profitable, we will be adding much more.

Selling SteemVoter.com

Many people showed interest in this, especially my friend @thecryptodrive. We have decided to use the funds he has raised to partner up in a more intimate way and to make steemvoter the best tool for our users. This still might change as nothing is confirmed yet, but I do hope to keep SteemVoter.com alive and well for everyone to use.

Other Small Updates

  • Do not add steemvoter in your rules list. It will be ignored, and automatically voted on in order of when the account was added to SteemVoter.
  • Adding accounts automatically is now fixed. So new accounts will now be added much quicker.
  • Slow website: The site is slow, the above changes will fix a lot of this. Once we are profitable I can also increase the server capacity.
  • We will be using one vote per day per account. I will be making automatic daily stats posts 5 days a week and 2 update posts a week. If we ever do use 2 votes in a day we will remove one of the others making 7 votes per week the max.

Comments are always welcomed!

Definitely need to learn more about this.

What would you like to know? :)

Some of us are so much newer to this stuff, some of the tech all you tecchy guys know and speak is way over our heads LOL. This is a whole new world to some of us! Do you have 3-4 points in this you could boil down in simple language that explains this easier...... I am hoping not for just me, but others like me reading this. So much of this content on here.... and much of it not understandable by the layman non-IT types.

TYIA very much!

We would love to explain thing in detail for you, but we don't know what you do and don't understand or know about. Steemvoter.com is a site where you enter your PRIVATE posting key and then set some rules for voting. There are past post about this. We were a free service that used your voting power to be funded, but many are taking advantage of us for bad reasons (creating many many low SP accounts on our system--which give them negative return). We assumed people understood that many accounts with low SP doesn't help anything other than the number of votes (doesn't give a better return or benefit them at all). However, this creates a lot of stress on our free service, so we are trying to limit it.

Does this answer your questions? I explained that part, considering it is the most important part of this update.

Yes it does, that is really quite good. I am sorry people have taken advantage of you, but sadly I guess it is to be expected. If I knew more about this stuff, I am likely right up your alley for someone that could benefit from it. At least you know I am new, LOL and not even able to understand all this to do the same haha!! TY for the help. Best wishes.

Sounds great!

Thanks for keeping us in the know, transparency is always helps in things like this!

We agree. Our goal is to have SteemVoter.com profitable and serving the community.

@strangerarray Do you use the service yet? I just started, and you were the first I added to my list. :)

Yes, and thanks for the add!

I have you and select others on mine and appreciate the service.

Deadly! Awesome service this is.

Glad you like it.

Well, that about cuts me out. As a disabled guy on a fixed budget I won't be purchasing enough Steem to make the automation worth the SP. Any recommendations for a bot that can help me use my little bit of voting power to encourage folks while I am AFK?

You can use us for however many rules your SP can get. As far as other free bots, I know of none.

Just wanted to amend my comment somewhat. Now that I have had time to think it over, I really don't have any complaint.

People like me with small amounts of SP also have limited voting power, and should probably not vote for very many folks automatically. As the amount of voting power increases, then using the option to lower the VP percentage to posters through rules will allow you to have the same impact on more people.

I've already cut back the number of people I use SteemVoter to automatically upvote, so that I can keep my Voting Power from running out. So again I have not complaints, in fact, I can, have and will continue to recommend the bot to others. The fact that I can choose who it votes on means that as a bot, it reinforces my ethical and aesthetic choices while I am AFK. That is the kind of Bot we need, IMO.

Thanks for your kind words. We aren't doing this move lightly. We thought about it and hope many users are ok with it.

Do you mind if I write a review of your service? I know sometimes people don't want an increase in attention while changes are going on.

My plan is to talk about how to use a bot ethically, by making choices about who gets votes, instead of being based on numerical values. I will have a subtext based on my idea for a Steem data page mentioned in this post, about a way to automatically tabulate who you manually upvote the most.

We would appreciate any attention, even during this change. However, please link to this post so people will know what to expect.

@baerdric, I've got a similar sized small account. I'll be getting the unlimited service once it becomes available. For me it's worth it in a couple respects - I love the service because I'm able to help support my favorite authors by autovoting on their posts. It doesn't always happen, but sometimes in return they also add me to their feeds or follow me back. I'm also able to earn consistent curation rewards - on average I'm making 1.36 SP per week.

See, I didn't even think about that because I send everything to SP at this point.

It will be awhile before I go over 500 SP and 10 votes just barely covers my favorite writers, not that I'm complaining about a free service. Using less rules might keep my voting power up anyway.

It's just such a great tool that I wish I could use it more.

Thanks a lot @steemvoter! Love the service. Keep up the great work.

Appreciate it.

Although I am not a big fan of voting bots, I must say that the steemvoter tool seems pretty complete. I may eventually use it at some point, for instance when I will take vacation ;)

You should. It's good.

I am still an old school person that like to read and upvote what I actually read... But slowly and slowly I may change my mind, in particular if this can help authors.

No reason you can't do both. I use Steem Voter but I also read and manually vote on as many posts as I have time for. I look at Steem Voter as a supplement to, not a replacement for, manual curation.

Thanks for the juicy update! I'm glad you and @thecryptodrive came to some agreement so we no longer have to be worried about the continuation of the Steem Voter service. The proposed roadmap sounds entirely reasonable and should go a long way toward making the service more sustainable as it keeps growing. I don't think I've reached the cap for my SP level yet, but if I ever do I'll gladly toss some SBD your way for the unlimited option.

We look forward to serving :)

This post has been ranked within the top 10 most undervalued posts in the first half of Nov 17. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $65.73 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Nov 17 - Part I. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.

This is great news. I am happy that your service will continue and grow.

3 SBD yearly fee is very reasonable. Maybe it can be even a bit higher :)

@steemvoter Signed up added my account. How long does an account stay "pending" before you can use it?

Edit: Just found the answer in the FAQ. A few minutes to a day it says.

It should be added within an hour. Let us know if it isn't.

It started working not long after I posted this request. Thanks for getting back to me. All is well.

This is a good article that I have been looking for again.

We have to limit the lower SP accounts that contribute little. Perhaps this will help people boost their accounts.
