But traditionally it had to be something else years and years ago... when there was no enamel. Had to be some natural colours.
It is great to see changes. Even small ones as long as it all goes in good direction.

Yes - I think traditionally it might have been similar to other art forms of India. There are art forms like Kathakali and theyyam .... surprisingly the ingridients for making colour was items like turmeric which is actually medicinal. As you said these small changes can go a big way
