RE: Land use types and carbon sequestration: In continous struggle to manage carbon

in #stemng7 years ago

Basically, plant respire just like humans. They breathe-in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. The process of using carbon dioxide to synthesize carbohydrate is photosynthesis. Both processes happen concurrently in plant such that parts of the carbon dioxide fixed is emitted during respiration when the synthesized food is broken down. Though photosynthesis proceeds at a faster rate than respiration so there is positive net carbon fixation at the end, except in special cases.
