Great post, @temitayo-pelumi! About 97 % of the energy supply in Norway is powered from hydroelectric sources, and I have gotten to learn a lot about this form of electricity due to living pretty close to a few plants. I was even able to visit one once - it feels surreal to go into a kind of small door into the mountain and enter a huge open space with gigantic turbines!
My field is biology, so I'm most familiar with the potential ecological problems of these plants, and it has proven to be very problematic for many important aquatic species that are affected by the changing water levels. There's always a huge debate whenever a new plant is planned if we should "sacrifice" the local aquatic ecosystems for more electricity, but at least it's a lot better than non-renewable energy sources for the most part :)
Best regards from @valth
Its my pleasure to have a professional like you who understands much of what I have discussed. One point which I like is the fact that you noted Hydro is still better than the non-renewable source.
And about this:
Yeah, I can relate much well, as I had trained at a steam power plant. The halls for those turbines are so much gigantic but always an exciting view.
Thanks for coming aroud. I will love to have you here more.
Highest regards!
