I'm sure you've seen the hundreds of get rich quick schemes on the Internet. Even the established financial gurus seem to be showing some investment that's guaranteed to increase your wealth overnight. The truth is investing is a very slow process that takes a lot of patience and time to grow wealth. If you're like me you don't want to hear that. Our culture is teaching us to expect things to be instant. Fast food, Google, Amazon shopping, etc., all designed for our busy lives to get things done fast.
There was an article in the press about a guy who worked at McDonald's for 20 years and retired as a millionaire. The only difference between him and his coworkers at every McDonald's in the world, was that he followed the rule of putting 10% of his income into investments. He did this with every paycheck, like clockwork, for 20 years. The first 10 years were probably the hardest, as the burden didn't seem worth the return… At first. But investments can increase exponentially because you're making money on the interest and again on the investments price increase.
Recent developments such as crypto like Bitcoin, and trading platforms such as Robin Hood where anyone can trade stocks with a cell phone completely free of commissions. those two developments alone make it more affordable than ever to buy small amounts of stock or crypto on a regular basis.
At the time of writing this, crypto coins have been in a freefall from a recent all-time high. Most people jumped in and bought just before the crash. This is common investing, even though most people know the saying, "buy low, sell high". There is also another principle in long-term investing called, "dollar cost averaging" where rather than try to predict the highs and lows of investment, you just buy a set amount over a long period of time, which gives you an average cost of your investment. Somewhere in the middle of the highs and lows and leaves room for increasing your investment down the road.
Whether it's stock or crypto, today's the day when you need to start Investing at whatever you can afford on a regular basis. I've added some helpful links below to get you started.
