"Your brain controls your body, and if the autopilot isn't working correctly you're in for a crash landing."

The first book you should get your hands on if you want to improve your life!

The Power of your Subconscious Mind By Joseph Murphy

The Introduction

I spent two years of my life training for a men's physique competitions. If you don't know what that is, it's basically bodybuilding for people who still want to look human. It requires developing sex appeal through exercise.

Now, getting your body to look good enough to step on stage takes a lot of effort, no one wants to get there and look 'out of their league'. It requires dieting perfectly and never missing a training session.

When I say diet had to be perfect, I mean absolutely perfect! I would prepare my meals at the start of the week, and weight out my portions of rice, sweet potato, meats, EVERYTHING down to the gram.

While I was doing all this I also worked full time as a personal trainer. This made things a little easier, because at least my work was the gym.

Being a personal trainer is what inspired me to compete in the first place. I thought that if others saw what I could achieve they would believe it's possible for them.

It didn't really workout like that but I'll save that for another post

Now you have some backstory lets get into the meat of it

I'd always been interested in modelling, at least to be apart of the creative experience. I also felt really selfconscious about trying it, I was afraid people would think it was dumb, or think I'm femanine... Your brain builds invisible barriers when it feels scared of a possibility it doesn't like. Naturally that was reason enough to give it a go. Tackle the things you fear head on.

So I made a profile on an online modelling site (it wasn't attached to any cryptocurrencies haha) and looked for some free work that I could get involved in.

I got some emails of interest and went to a few shoots (results below) and had some good times and some not so good times... But it was a great learning experience.

Then something really, odd, happened.

I received a call from someone who was fast talking and though his Asian accent was strong, he had a great command of the English language.

He said he was a doctor who worked in Sydney (a hour or so south) and wanted to meet with me because he could help me improve my life. He said he found me on ModelMayhem, the modelling site I use. I couldn't really understand where he was coming from though, like, did he want to take photo's of me orrrrr

It was all a bit much, I wasn't really eager to meet up with a complete stranger making such ludicrous claims. Then I remembered

We miss 100% of the opportunities we don't take

I agreed to meet him in a Sydney cafe on George Street in a fortnight, it was a public place so what's the worst that can happen right?

The two weeks passed by and I left for Sydney, I stayed with a friend Friday and Saturday night and planned to see him on the Sunday.

The Meeting

Sunday at 2pm. George Street in the heart of Sydney is bussling. Perhaps all these people were making their way to a chance encounter of their own...

I walk into the cafe. An Asian man with slightly receding jet black hair and a face that actually glowed with positivity waved me to me and offered a seat. He greeted me, shook my hand, said his name was Leo and proceeded to play 20 questions with me.

How was my trip.
How was my training.
How was my life.
How are my clients.

I answered these questions and a million more before I got a chance to learn about him!

He was born in the Philippians, worked in America as a doctor and now finds himself in Sydney working in an emergency room.

After getting some more info about him and sharing in some small talk. I couldn't take it any more, I had to ask.

"So why exactly did you want to meet me?"
"Because I can help you see the world in a way that will bring you success, love and happiness"

It sounded crazy, but the expression his face gave was one of true caring.
I didn't know how to respond.
Do I tell him he's crazy? Do I let him know my life is already plenty successful and love filled?

Of coarse not!

I ask him how.

His response was, "Many ways"...

This was about as vague as I was expecting. But, as if he could read my hesitation, he quickly asked me if I enjoy reading.

Of coarse I do.

He paid for our coffees and walked me to one of the largest bookshops in Sydney! We chatted as we walked, as he talked about my clients and how I improve the lives of those around me.

He explained to me that, just as people are unsure how to exercise to have healthy bodies people are often unsure of how to think to have a healthy mind. And just like I am a personal trainer for the body, he is a mentor for emotional and spiritual health.

Never before have I had such feelings of intrigue and confusion.

When we got to the book store, which is so big it takes up two floors, Leo walked to the registers and asked a staff member if they had a copy of "The Power of your Subconscious Mind".

Kinokuniya, a wonderful bookshop in Sydney!

As if by fate, they had one copy left.

We walked to where it was on the shelves, and being a tiny book in what felt like a warehouse it was miraculous we found it.

He paid for it, told me to read it with concentration and that he would be in touch to discuss more teachings.

I thanked him, still very bewildered as to what this entire meeting meant, and we parted ways.

On the train ride back up the coast to my home I sat and started to read, and my life was improved for the first time (but not the last) by a total stranger.

This won't be the last I post of the mysterious Leo

I give a rough outline of the books topic in this video

Your brain controls your body, and if the autopilot isn't working correctly you're in for a crash landing.

This isn't a book that can be summarized and put into a nifty "The top 5 things I learned from x" post, even though I'm sure someone has tried.

This book deserves your respect and attention, it's explaining an incredibly difficult topic so approach it with an open mind. Give it your time and just know that it will change your life for the better in some way, large or small.

I hope you enjoyed the read and get your hand on a copy of the book. It has changed my life and the lives of my clients.

If you have already read the book and would like to leave your thoughts please do!
I hope this has inspired you to improve your life or the life of someone around you.

Thanks Harry, good luck.

Mindblown I guess I'm intrigued at the randomness of this encounter and how it went in a completely different direction than what you were expecting but for the better. Do you feel like your goals have changed since then? I've added it to my Goodreads list.

It was such a bizarre situation hey. Never before had I met someone who was so invested in other people's success. I definitely have more stories to share about him.

And my goals have changed somewhat. I definitely need to write a post about how things have changed between then and now.

Thanks a lot for your support too @sarahtops9000 I really appreciate it!

He sounds pretty interesting. Yeah that would make a good post. Thank you as well! I've enjoyed reading your content.

I enjoyed your post ... my voting power is down..need to build up before using again..it is pennies but I like using it.. Look like that guy could have mailed you the book but that would not have been as fun. great story!

He definitely wanted to meet me personally. Get a feel for my personality and see what I was like and what my values and goals are like. I learnt a lot about him in the six months following this first encounter.

I'm glad you found it interesting :) stay tuned for more.

I love books, I spend most of my time reading if I'm not traveling. I will definitely check it out, hopefully there's one in the local bookstore!
