Lost Labyrinths and Laundromat Loot

in #stories5 years ago

As I was lying in bed while waking up this morning, I watched a rerun episode of the television show MYTH HUNTERS from 2014 entitled "The Quest For The Labyrinth." The episode featured the aclaimed British archaeologist Arthur Evans on a quest to unearth the ancient Minoan civilization and the mythical Labyrinth's location, which he suspected was on the island of Crete. The clue that helped lead him on his search was the ancient Greek symbol 'Labrys', which he believed was connected somehow to the term for 'labyrinth', and by proxy the ancient tale of the Minotaur. This symbol, roughly equated, was a double-headed axe. When represented in the linear fashion, it is almost identical to that of the Nordic Rune 'Dagaz'.

The show held my attention and after it was over, I made small mental note of the axe-like symbol displayed on the screen, and went about the rest of my day.

This evening, at my graveyard shift job supervising a local 24-hr laundromat in Portland, Oregon, I was cleaning up the parking lot of all the carelessly left refuse, when totally, out of nowhere, on the ground next to the concrete curb, I found a single, pearly-white polished stone. It was about 1.5 inches in diameter, smooth and shiny, and stood out against the dark and grimey asphalt at my feet. I picked it up and when I turned it over in the palm of my hand I was stunned to see that the other side had a chizled out marking of a double-headed axe, the rune "Dagaz."

While I could wax on endlessly about the current state of my life, my unrealized dreams, defeats, and victories, I felt like this syncronisity had some meaning just for me. This special find took me back to the days of my 15-yr old juvenile book collection, particularly one book pertaining to the path of the Vitki, that sparked my fascination with runes and similar ancient symbols and languages.

I wanted to share wity any who would read this, that the Universe is still very much alive, and quite possibly still full of wonder, and responsiveness. For me to have such a small, yet powerfull and undeniable coincidence in what has become my mundane and frequently joyless, late-30's life-path, proves to me that the Universe and the care of great powers, undoubtedly still, very much exist- for us all....
