Looking To The Future & Making A Comeback (31/10/24)

Initially, I had started this on Mastodon, but now it's getting to the point where it's too long for it (especially if I had to copy-paste it to another platform), so now it'll be a blog post instead, where I have more space to essentially get all my thoughts out in a more structured way! I'll be posting this complete post on all current platforms I plan to use moving forward, which will include WordPress.com, SubscribeStar, Friendica (so I have a place for larger posts on the Fediverse), PeakD, and Tumblr (via WP integration. I do want to eventually host my own WP install, but that won't be happening for a while yet)! I have been weighing up using Friendica instad of Mastodon, so I can make small and large posts from the same account, but at this point, that might be a bit fiddly! That said however, like Mastodon, I might also self-host a Friendica instance as it can inter-operate with Mastodon, so it might be for Mastodon, I'll set up something where a post on Friendica gets mirrored to there, but I'm getting ahead of myself, so let's get to the entire reason for this post in the first place!

So, I've been in the process of cleaning up my watch list on my gameplay channel because I want to only have gaming, music, and gaming-adjacent videos associated with it, as I feel that I need to start watching the "correct" content for each of my channels, so I can keep it gaming focused, although it'll take a while to get it fully sorted, although I did get a big chunk done in the past hour! Of course, I'll also need to get into the habit of switching channels between topics, or removing the videos from my watch history within a few days of watching them! I also need to shift around my subscriptions a bit too, although some channels are multiple topics, so I want to get into the habit of watching the right content on the right channels too, so I'm able to comment more appropriately on the content I'm watching, especially as it does mean I can increase the activity of all 3 of my "Stormkeeper" branded channels! This username actually handles everything for my gameplay and tech, etc. channels, because I see it as ridiculous to have one channel for each YT (or similar) channel, especially as there's realistically far more overlap between topics on social media!

Additionally, my StormkeeperSMDK channel handles everything else not handled by the former 2 channels, but is aimed at solo travel, anything to do with Stormhaven Media, and anything else related to the DiggerKrew that is pretty niche, which is also a purpose of the gaming/tech channels, but in that space, meaning stuff like my let's plays, first looks, niche computing and tech stuff, such as my future retro Linux gaming project, as well as also stuff I want to cover with thin clients, and other gaming and computing stuff that won't fit on the mainline "Geeked Up" channels, although it's going to take me a few months or so to get to the initial point I want to restart from! I have plans to return to streaming in the future, although one major change will be to keep my past streams For both of my stream channels on a dedicated "past streams" channel, seeing as I'm aware that running streams on YT channels affects them negatively in terms of viewing figures, so I think that is the best thing to do, especially now that I can stream on both YouTube and Twitch at the same time as an affiliate! I also am considering other platforms via Restream.io, but I have plenty of time to think about that!

I do want to expand the content on my gameplay channel, but again, I need to think about that some more, though I'm not going to return to IsaacStorm till at least January, or February at the very latest as I need to get my audio setup in both OBS and also physically restored to what it was before I took my break, and subsequently move to a new place! Part of the reason for me to need so long is that I need to find all the bits I used in the physical setup, some of which may or may not be in storage, and need time to cover the OBS settings, especially as I'll be applying them to my primary laptop, current primary PC (after I back up and wipe everything off the drives), and my secondary/development PC! I also need time to deploy my new dual monitor setup, upgrade the GPU, upgrade the CPU, and reinstall a lot of software! I have also been considering (as I probably said in the past) wiping my current IsaacStorm saves and starting again with it, as it's been so long since I've played! However, I will be backing up those saves too, so they're not going to be lost! Also, given Barony has recieved lots of updates since I last played, it's probably time I also looked into playing that again in the future too.

One other thing I had in mind is that I want to start a series called "Gallery of Roguelikes" (which I may have mentioned ages ago), where for 2-4 weeks, I'll try a different roguelike or roguelike, excluding Isaac Repentance or Barony, so I can do a little showcase of the games, separate from my "first look" segment, although in some cases, it'll be more likely that all roguelikes/roguelikes get moved to there, or they get moved there after I've done a first look, so I can show more gameplay! I'm currently considering doing it on Mondays and Fridays, though there is no start date planned at this time. One other thing I have been considering is playing Isaac Mon-Fri, with additional content on Sat and Sun, just to mix things up, whilst also making better use of my (limited) energy and time. As I want to ease myself back into doing let's plays, I want to do something I can call time on easily, so in sticking with doing a roguelike, I'll be tacking Castle of the Winds Mon-Fri for the time being, eventually replacing it with Isaac, however long that takes me to finish. I would expect some hiccups with this series at the hardware end; I'm more than capable of playing it, especially as it's turn-based, so that'll ease me back into doing commentary at least!

As for the length of each session, I was thinking 25-30 mins each, especially as I can queue them up 2 weeks in advance, although at the same time, it'll be 1-2 weeks before I can actually act on any suggestions and tips for playing, due to the schedule. This is coincidentally what I'd envision for the majority of LP series for my channels, except for IssaacStorm, because there's no way of knowing how long a session will last, but I am at least hoping that as I get better at playing, I can also reduce the time of the videos somewhat, freeing me up to do other content, or even just having a short break during recording! I do also want to get into automating more mundane tasks some more, such as posting announcements for new videos and streams, and anything else that's repeatable, but that may take a little time! At least I do have the ability to schedule a lot of posts, which makes things easier, especially if I don't want to live post things. Of course, Twitter is on its way out at this point, so as I've said before, I'll be gradually withdrawing myself from the platform, as it doesn't give me the value it once did; essentially it'll become something I'll check every so often and very occasionally respond to, but like others have done before me, I'm set on leaving! My lesser-used accounts will be completely locked down, especially as I've hardly used them, but my 2 Stormkeeper accounts will need some more thought put into things!

In any case, right now I'm trying to find everyone on Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads/Instagram, which is gradually happening, but may take a while. For the record I'm on those 4 platforms, as well as TikTok, and also have Facebook pages, as well as dormant accounts on Friendica, though I forget the address for those. Either way, I think that's enough writing for now... time to get more stuff done!
