GAME CHANGER #4

Sam has advised Dave to overlook his misunderstanding with Susan and to give their relationship another chance to work. On the other side, Claire is instructed by her friend Susan to tempt Dave so Susan can be sure of his love -or not- for her.

6pm, Friday evening, Claire stood outside Susan's apartment trying to bring herself to knock on the door. It had been a really tough week trying to get Susan's money. Unfortunately, she still had a long way to go. She'd called yesterday to let Susan know what she had and Susan had laughed saying the money couldn't even buy her daily call card. She'd then advised her to quit trying and come see her so that they could go to Dave's house together.

Well, here she was. Better to get it over and done with. God knew after this episode she was going to follow Helen's constant advise and stir clear of Susan in future. She hoped it wouldn't be too late.

She'd sneaked out of the reading room earlier while Hellen had dozed off and had silenced her phone to avoid any calls from her. She ……

'….Do you plan on coming in sometime today? Or are you going to stand there staring at my door all night?' Susan's voice interrupted her musings and she raised her head to see Susan just inside the door

'….hi Susan.. I was just about to knock' she replied nervously. She pulled the door open and went in. It was going to be a long night. She prayed she didn't live to regret her actions.

They arrived Dave's place just as the party was about to begin. According to Susan, she had had to twist Dave's hand to make him throw a party at his place. Dave didn't much enjoy parties but had given in when she'd continuously nagged him about his dull lifestyle and how he needed to revitalise it.
For Claire, that was the mark of a man who loved and would likely do anything to keep his woman happy. She didn't understand where Susan's insecurity came from.

She stepped out uncomfortably from the car.. Susan had made her change into a low slung dress that hugged her curves in ways she didn't enjoy and high heels she was still trying to get used to. The living room was quite crowded from what she could see and she wondered how Susan hoped to achieve her plan in such an atmosphere. For her, she was out of here at the first opportunity.

Susan took her round the room, stopping everynow and then to hug and greet people… seemed like she knew everyone present and was totally in her element. It was only just begun but Claire felt tired already. They were just moving towards the dining area when Dave came up behind them. He slid his hands round Susan's waist and bent to greet her. They exchanged some whispered words and then Susan lifted her head to smile at Claire.

'…Claire, you already know Dave..so I don't need to introduce the both of you. You can get reacquainted while I get us some drinks' she said and moved quickly towards the bar.

Claire stood awkwardly before Dave not knowing what to say and he was wasn't helping matters staring at her as he was. She cleared her throat to get his attention….' ehm… hi Dave…'

Dave jerked his head back to her face, a look of surprise all over him 'i beg your Pardon Claire but for a while there, I didn't know that was you. You Look completely changed. Come to think of it, what are you doing here? I've never seen you attend one of Susan's parties before….so what's new?'

Claire smiled nervously and glanced around looking for Susan. 'Susan wanted me here today. She said it was a special day to her. She did the makeover and I'm still trying to get used to it.'

Dave smiled 'you do look beautiful, who would have thought such beauty existed beneath the nerd facade. There's no need to be nervous or shy. It's just a party. Try to enjoy yourself. I'll introduce you to Sam as soon as he arrives. He could be your partner for tonight. that's If he doesn't come with one but it's all good. Let me show you around.'

Susan came back with the drinks and handed Claire a glass. She shook her head 'Thanks but no... you know I don't drink.'

Susan took her hand and pressed the drink into it. 'tonight you do. Besides it's just champagne..not whisky or brandy.' she then leaned forward and whispered in her ear 'remember why we're here. The drink will help loosen you up a bit. I'm going to leave him with you for most of the night. Try to make the most of it. with that she sidled up to Dave, kissed him and was gone.
