.....previously on Game Changer
A misunderstanding in their relationship causes Dave and Susan to seek solutions to their problems. They both go about it differently. Dave receives advise from his buddy Sam to give his relationship with Susan another chance to work out. Susan on the other hand cajoles Claire her friend into setting a seduction trap for Dave so she could be sure he wasn't into other girls..
Plans are deflected and new misunderstanding arise when Claire suddenly takes ill at the party where she was to have carried out her part of the plan and ended up being cared for by Dave.....
__________
The weekend had been really fun. Claire had to admit. She smiled secretly to herself. There was a little prick of guilt behind her smile but she convinced herself that since she'd done nothing wrong, there was no need for that.
It was Monday morning and Dave had just dropped her off at the hostel on his way to work so she could prepare for the day's lecture. She still couldn't believe she'd spent the weekend at his place.
Sam had come in just as she'd gone downstairs in search of her shoes and they'd almost bumped into each other. Sam had steadied her and led her to sit down as she'd been a bit unsteady on her feet. He'd enquired to know how she felt and after the initial awkwardness, they'd got on like a house on fire.
A while later Dave had come in to meet them laughing over some silly jokes Sam had been telling.
From there, it had been a case of who could tell the better jokes, play better at the video games with the looser becoming the cook for the day.
It had been a shock when she'd discovered it was already evening but both guys had insisted there was no need to rush back since the next day was a Sunday. They could relax and have fun together while ensuring she was totally over her ordeal and she'd go back to school early Monday morning.
She'd let her self be persuaded into staying and both guys had immediately gone out to get her some basics. They'd returned later with Sam's girlfriend in tow and it had been a very wonderful experience for Claire. Susan was so so lucky.
Thoughts of Susan wiped the smile off her face. Susan was Dave's girlfriend and she knew she didn't stand a chance to compete. Susan was tall, slim, beautiful, rich and social. Whereas she was just average looking, on the shorter and curvier side, she wasn't from a rich home and she was most times reserved around people. She really liked Dave - she'd liked him from afar since Susan had first introduced them when he'd come to pick her up after a lecture.
But she was also very much aware that Dave was not of her class. To prevent Susan finding out about her feelings, she stayed well away whenever he was to come around and the few times she'd spoken with him had been when she'd been roped unexpectedly into hanging out with them.
Claire shook her head to clear her thoughts. It was a new week. Time enough to face Susan….. and her roommates who she had only sent a text message to say she'd be away for the weekend.
**********
The long lecture
was finally coming to end. Claire looked around and found Susan at the other end of the lecture hall glaring daggers at her. She heaved a heavy sigh.
Susan had been absent from lectures on Monday and Claire had purposely not called her to know why. It wasn't the first nor second time Susan had missed school but it was the first time Claire hadn't called her to enquire why.
It was time to start distancing herself from Susan. She'd paid her debt- even if it hadn't gone as planned- she no longer owed Susan anything as far as she was concerned.
She packed her books as soon as the lecturer vacated the hall. Unfortunately, Susan was waiting for her by the door. 'you've been avoiding me' Susan accused.
Claire shook her head. She definitely wasn't going to get the quick escape she'd planned. 'I haven't been avoiding you Susan. We were together on Saturday and today is just Tuesday. You weren't in school yesterday…..'
'Exactly. And you didn't call me. Previously, You would have called me to know why, so I'm wondering if there isn't a reason for your avoiding me'
Claire heaved a sigh. It really was time to end this. 'Susan. I'm not your mother to always call you. You could have called me to say you wouldn't be in school. Secondly, after what happened last week, I think it's best we went our separate ways. A 'friend' who uses her friend's misfortune to her advantage is not a good friend, neither is one who abandons her unconscious friend at a party she took her to.!
Susan eyed her. 'unconscious indeed. So that's the story you and Dave decided to use After I caught both of you making out at the party?.
'I don't know what you saw Susan, but we didn't make out. I was unconscious at the time so I don't really know what happened. But if we did as you said, wasn't that your intention all along, what you literally blackmailed me to do? Why are you so upset now? I had just two glasses of champagne which you gave me and fell ill. You should have watched out for me. I guess I was lucky Dave was kind hearted enough to do what you should have done.
Susan's expression became stubborn 'you were not supposed to pass out. He said the drug would just get you high enough to relax your guard. I didn't believe Dave when he said you passed out otherwise I wouldn't have stormed out as I did leaving you in that state.'
Claire was speechless. 'wait a minute. Yo…., You drugged me at the party? Are you crazy? What the hell for?
'you were jittery all the way there. You obviously needed something to relax you.
'And you thought the best way to do that was to doctor my drink? Did it never occur to you I was on edge because of what you asked me to do? What if I'd had an allergic reaction to the substance and had ended up in the hospital? She clamped her hand to her forehead. 'what am I even saying? I should have known you all along. Hellen saw you for what you were but I was busy trying to see the good in you.
Susan you are wicked and heartless. And from this day forward I want nothing to do you. Your friendship is poisonous".
She moved to walk away but Susan held her back. 'You think I enjoyed our friendship? You, a nobody. Very dull little miss goody two shoes. The only reason I tolerated you was because I needed someone to do my coursework. At least you were good for something. Anyway, I don't really care if you go to hell but let me warn you.… stay away from Dave. I saw the way he kept looking at you at the party. Don't think you can capitalize on that to take him away from me'
'My God Susan! you're priceless. Not even a word of apology.' she
shook her head 'A piece of advise my dear, Dave is a man worth keeping and I hope you realize that and change from your negative attitude and insecurities before it's too late. I doubt if your beauty and class will continually blind him to the rotten core within you. Adieu'
Claire walked away from Susan without a backward glance. She breathed a sigh of relief it really was over.
