Hello and welcome to this 6 part mini series! I am an amateur screenplay writer and love to share original stories that I come up with. When I say amateur, I really mean amateur lol. Regardless, I hope you enjoy!!
Winter
1600 A.D.
North America
It's a frigid morning as the sun begins to rise behind the ominous fog of the trees.
Silence. Not a sound is heard.
Snowflakes fall and gently cover the ground burying all the life that once was.
Silence.
Suddenly, a crack of a tree branch. Screams from a hunting party. A shear roar of a beast.
Then silence.
It's as if the world had stopped. The snowflakes begin to fall once more.
This time covering the blood soaked snow of the kill.
A native man, built strong, carrying the carcass of the slain deer. He is young. His name is Creak. He moves with ease through the snow with his bow in one hand and arrows strapped around him. It's quiet.
A native boy appears out of breathe, cut on his forehead. He is bleeding badly. He faints and falls to his knees.
Creak drops the deer and runs to the boy, holding him up.
Creak shakes the boy-"Atohi, Atohi!"
No response. The boy continues to bleed from the cut on his forehead. Creak continues to shake the boy as he pulls a knife and cuts off a piece of his cloth pant. He wipes away the blood from the boys forehead.
Creak continues to call out to the boy -"Atohi, wake up! Wake up!"
Nothing.
Creak begins to search the boy for other wounds and discovers a bite mark on the boys lower back. Creak picks up the boy and grabs his bow and runs off leaving the slain deer, as it too gets covered by the snow.
Creak, carrying the boy, runs into a camp, his home.
Creak- "Help! Get the aid! Please it's my brother!"
The people of the village come to Creak's side and help bring Atohi inside a tent. A healer walks into the tent with smoking tinder.
Healer- "Hold him down."
Men in the tent hold the arms of Atohi as the healer walks up and begins to rub the burning tinder on the wound.
Atohi's eyes shoot open as he begins to scream and tries to resist the restraints. The wound cauterizes and Atohi goes back into his dormant state.
Creak is standing in the background pacing the floor. The healer approaches Creak.
Healer-"He is saved. Calm my child"
Creak-"He was bit on his back"
The healer becomes unsettled but tries to recapture his composure.
Healer-"A simple animal bite. Nothing to be alarmed about"
Creak- "I've never seen a bite like that before"
Murmurs begin to arise from the other men in the tent. The healer takes a step back from Creak and goes back to Atohi. He looks at the boys back and becomes unsettled once again.
Healer-"Everyone out. Now."
At first the men hesitate in fear and confusion, but finally make their way out of the tent. Creak, however, remains inside as the healer reexamines the bite mark.
Creak-"He's going to die"
Healer- "I don't know for sure"
Creak-"They always die"
A mature native woman comes bursting into the tent. She shrieks at the site of her son on the table limp. Creak runs over to her and hugs her.
Elsu-"What happened? Why isn't he waking up?"
Healer-"The gods must will it first"
Elsu looks at Creak.
Elsu-"What did you see?"
Creak-"Nothing. I was coming back from the kill and he appeared in front of me bleeding and then fell. I saw nothing."
Elsu-"Where is Mato?"
Creak, confused -"He wasn't there. I didn't see him."
Creak looks at the healer in hopes of help.
Elsu-"They went gathering together. They were supposed to be back before you left"
Creak-"He must still be out there. He must still be out there with them."
Elsu-"With who?"
Creak guides his mother up to the table and flips his brother over to reveal the bite mark on Atohi's lower back. Elsu stumbles backwards into the arms of the healer sobbing uncontrollably. She can't muster up another word.
The healer points to Creak-"Go! Find him and bring him back"
Creak rushes out of the tent and heads back into the woods with a group of native men in hopes of finding Mato.
The men enter the woods. Creak leads the men to the place where he found Atohi.
Tocho-"This is where you found Atohi?"
Creak-"Yes. He appeared from behind this tree and fell. His blood is still fresh."
Tocho to the rest of the men-"Search for Mato"
Creak is kneeling by the blood pool that his brother created.
Tocho-"He will live Creak. Atohi has the heart of a bear. He is strong."
Creak does not respond. A men yells out to Tocho and gets his attention. Tocho walks over to the man who is standing in front of a larger pool of blood with small remains of what once was an animal.
Tocho shouts out to Creak-"Whose blood is this?"
Creak looks confused-"I don't know."
Creak quickly realizes and panics -"That's where I dropped my deer before running to Atohi."
Silence.
A loud scream.
