The Story of the Ancient Tale: The Origin of Rice

Once, long drought hit the village of Tanah Lingo, Kalimantan Island. Since there is nothing else to eat, famine strikes the villagers. They are busy talking about the dry season. However, no answer was also obtained. Finally, the matter was handed over to Datu Baru Taun, the highest leader in the village. Then Datu Baru Taun got the answer that this incident is a result of human activities that violate the prohibition of the ancestors. Many people have committed sins. Those sins will be forgiven by a sacrifice of Aiwa offering. However, no one wants to sacrifice his soul.

In a difficult situation, a teenage girl comes forward. Apparently, he is the Princess Liung, the son of Datu Baru Taun. He is ready to sacrifice himself by athabitants of his village. For Datu Baru Taun, this is really a dilemma. Princess Liung is the only child she loves very much. But as the village head, he should not refuse the effort to save his village.

Apparently Princess Liung's determination has really been unanimous. Suddenly Datu Baru Taun announced to the audience that the ancestors wanted the sacrifice of their daughter. Princess Liung was taken to an open field outside the village. The residents gathered to witness the sacrifice of the princess. Not long after, sacrifice ceremony was done immediately. Princess Liung stabbed to death, but did not scream at all. Her face looked radiant. After the blood spilled, his body fell into the lap of the motherland, as the form of loyalty to the ancestors, the bodies of Princess Liung immediately buried accompanied by crying and the hope of the population will be a good change in their village.

After the corpse was buried and given the last reverence by sowing flowers and prayers together, suddenly came a thundering breeze. Cloudy clouds accompanied the ghost of the princess. Not long, it rained heavily, the thunderclouds and thunder were sounding like splitting the earth. The inhabitants perceive this natural event as a sign, the sacrifice of the Princess Liung is accepted and the villagers' sins have been forgiven.

A few days later, village life has returned to normal. The radiant sunlight illuminates the earth, the plants begin to flourish, the animals multiply rapidly, the forests re-green, and the water of the crystal clear rivers flows through the surrounding countryside. The villagers are rejoiced to welcome the improved village situation.
