Blending in can be tough, especially when you're a brown spot on a white canvas. Trying to fit in isn't always the right thing to do though, we must accept each other not based on our skin colors or religion, but based on our values and kindness. I can't lose my cultural identity, but I feel like I must change it to fit into this country. Especially in a white state like Minnesota, sometimes I can feel so lost and alone.
Sometimes I wish I could change my skin color and blend in, but I couldn't throw away my Somalian culture like garbage. A world of all white would be boring and bland, and it would lack spice and flavor.
We need all cultures to blend in and make a canvas of color, a canvas of beauty, a canvas of hope.
Your not alone brother...you should move to Boston, we are loved up here...you dont want to blend, you are unique. A lot of white kids in the inner cities wish they could be black but would never admit it. Head down, eyes up, keep pushing brother, you WILL find your space of love in the USA. Live free or die
This post brought tears to my eyes. Your words are so powerful and you're 100% right. It's our responsibility to create a new canvas. Please continue writing, you are so inspirational~
