This time last year I was the biggest NFL junky I know. I never got into college football other than the annual UCLA game my buddy Phest takes me to in Pasadena, California, at the Rose Bowl. I think the athletes go through the system too quickly at the college level for me to keep up. NFL - Different story! I was born and raised a Broncos fan. How’s this? The ‘curtain’ I’m looking at right now, the one covering the back entry to the kitchen, it’s a Denver Broncos flag. As I type this article to you I’m drinking coffee out of a Denver Broncos coffee cup and the DJ is wearing a Broncos hat.
That probably doesn’t justify my opening sentence, though, does it? This is my softail I built back in 2003 - R.I.P C.W! Even the seat is navy with orange stitching and the open primary says Mile High in blue and orange.
Living room parking - Garage is for dirt bikes
More? Before fantasy football and draft kings became a full-grown, adult man’s Pokémon, about a dozen of my buddies and myself played a similar game. At X buy-in we would each pick game winners every Sunday and at the end of the season, whoever had the most wins, they win the pot. Are you convinced yet? And the players, too, I could tell you where they went to school, how fast they run the 40-yard dash, their wing span, the numerical order in which they were drafted by the league, etc.
It all stopped last season. It was around week five or six, about this time last year actually, I haven’t watched it since. Being a Broncos fan, we know more about the Oakland raiders than most raiders (no caps) fans. This season, however, I haven’t watched a minute of it. I have zero knowledge of the raiders and Broncos draft picks, either teams’ coaches, running backs, I don’t even know who the quarterback for either team is. I assume Daryl Trukk is still throwing for the raiders and the Broncos signed Case Keenum during the offseason but I haven’t seen either of them play. It’s been like this for about a year now and I’m surprisingly comfortable with it.
The whole kneeling thing and the President of the United States calling the entire league what he called them was a bit much. The President does what he does and I count on the NFL for entertainment. When the guys who entertain me got into a pissing match with the guy who doesn’t entertain me, I turned it off. That was right about the time I released Saved By A Junky - I didn’t know what a trail was before that. Soon after that I did that eyeball - Another one. I began investing more time into myself and less into the remote.
I had a lot of time on my hands. It takes quite a bit, several hours each week, to stay on top of those stats I listed. Injuries, off-field issues, hold-outs, it adds up. I’m talking about the NFL with in-laws, the guy wearing ‘Any Team’ shirt at the market, anyone really, just know a little bit about the league and we have something in common. I devoted a lot of time to the them. I’m learning how to do anything else instead.
My mornings no longer consist of coffee and Sports Center. Rather than the remote control I’m editing something or even writing song lyrics. I began drawing, too, and I’m paying attention to contests around here but the craziest part is I’ve entered some of these competitions and had amazing results! Look who second place is!! Time spent practicing various arts and building confidence to enter competitions is tough to acquire during football season, offseason, post season and preseason.
Check out my “sports” folder today, this time last year it was: Draft Kings, Bet Counter, NFL, Fox Sorts, Sports Ticker, Las Vegas Odds, LA Times and a few more. I have yet to let go of these last two. I haven’t clicked on either of them this season but I guess I haven’t fully committed.
Coincidentally, my “web tools” folder is growing. I had never cut and pasted a photo - Photoshop is great for that stuff! And there’s even an app called “Cut & Paste!” As any commentator would say: “The momentum of the game has changed.”
I miss Carrie Underwood singing the Sunday night football song - It’s such a great song! I don’t know the words or anything but Carrie rocks the heck out of that red, tuxedo looking dress thing when she sings it. You shouldn’t hear the television volume played at exponential levels during football games anymore either. I’m not as concerned with the batteries in the remote control as I am the charge in the iPad or how to properly save images on the GoPro. I still stop randomly while peddling but I’m not checking scores or my fantasy teams, I’m most likely rearranging something, writing down a new idea or taking pictures of the perfectly straight lines in the sky.

C.W was one of my truest friends in this world. Now that I’ve introduced you to him I look forward to telling you more stories about him - He was twice my age and 10 times wiser. I learned how to build a custom softail in his garage that year, that’s where we were the night Johnny Cash died but more importantly, I learned about obligations in that garage. Nothing came before that man’s family. I know a lot of men with families but I don’t know anyone like him. Thanks C.W, save me a seat! He taught me something about football, too, it took me this long to figure out what he meant.
It would’ve been the ‘02-‘03 NFL season and the raiders (no caps, still 😉) beat the Tennessee Titans in the AFC championship game advancing their season to Super Bowl 37 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (they lost btw). C.W was a raiders fan. When we got back to work the following week and his team was headed to Super Bowl XXXVII, I asked him where he would watch the game. He told me he wouldn’t watch it. He said he’d probably stop by the clubhouse to make sure everything is ok and they’ll have the game on but he didn’t care. It didn’t make sense to me at the time but I’ll never forget the way he said it:
“They’re going to play whether I watch them or not and they’ll either win or they’ll lose.”
This is fantastic @dandays. I love that your “tools” folder is growing and thriving while your “sports” folder decreases into almost nothing. The way you spend your time now contributes to so many wonderful characteristics about you. You’re strengthening your writing, exercising your imagination, developing your art, stimulating your mind, and evolving into someone I find so interesting. You are an inspiration babe! Keep up the good work. Football will be there any time you want to watch it :)
You seen how bad the mirror is lately? And cooler than the other side of your pillow in the kitchen! I’m the luckiest guy I know. Thank you, I’m glad you think so, you deserve an interesting dude. And thanks for laughing at my jokes. (Don’t worry, I haven’t tried to be funny this whole time)
iheartu all the time @puravidaville.
Iheartu all the time. You make me laugh all the time!!
Never really been a big fan of football. Then again, English football isn't really the same thing. Football season usually seems to coincide with the windy rainy crap weather. Especially when your a school boy and they make you play tbe game in the winter. Nah... not for me thanks. I'm allergic to the cold and I'm damn sure Strawberries can't remedy that one!
C.W sounds great. Can't wait to read more about him.
One image app I think is great is call 'Ultimate Background Eraser'. It great for, well... getting rid of backgrounds. Heres one i did earlier
Its a bit rough but I'm still practicing 😁
I'm on Android though, not sure if you can get it for ipad.
Hey what’s up man?! Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to one of the funniest people I follow. A big ‘lol’ at the strawberries, good one! They probably don’t stand a chance if they can’t grow. Even someone who researches the weirdest things knows that.
I found this app, does it look like yours?
Oh dude, CW was awesome. And that’s not even a made up name, those are actually his initials and that’s what he went by at that time, he had to change his name every couple years. He was ‘that’ guy. Man he was awesome! I think you’ll enjoy reading about him.
Eh, you put this article together really well how to add Steem to your watchlist at coinbase. Good job man!
Thanks a lot for stopping by @sivehead.
edit Oops, I forgot to tell you about this one that @edprivat showed me, have you seen it? You can see which account follow you or your following that are no longer active.

Pretty cool.
Yes, that looks like it could be the same app
That Steem.agency does seem pretty cool, but do you get the little red warning triangle in the address bar, instead of the green padlock?
I don’t know how I missed that. Thanks!
Those are very wise words from your guy CW!
So simply, and yet so true. Live life, not tv.
My ex-husband was a bit of a flat-liner in real life, but my god he could yell and become alive when he watched football, and I used to look at him and wonder why he couldn't find that passion for his real life and real family.
We are Seahawks fans, but I hear you loud and clear. All of that stuff, regardless of how you feel about it, seemed to take the fun and entertainment out of football. Now living in Mexico, I could really care less haha; like you, there's just so many other productive and healthy things you can do with your time!
Ahh yeah, you! You know I love it when you stop by, you! Great to see to be seen. You know I imagine you as the type of person who can’t say a whole sentence without laughing somewhere in the middle?
C.W., I’m so glad I finally brought him up, he was ‘that guy’ to me. I’m looking forward to sharing some more about that guy, I’m pretty sure you’re gonna dig it.
Aannnnd... Here we go!
My goodness, ever been to CenturyLink Field?! Oh man! Seahawks vs Denver around 2012 (ya’all slaughtered us btw!), that was my first time there. Denver scored first and my ‘bashful self’ had my hand to my ear, on my feet, screaming things like “I thought this place was loud?!” The whole 9! Well... that was the only touchdown we scored that game and my God!!! I’ve never experienced pain like that and I was wearing earplugs. You really have to be prepared for that stadium!
And y’all had Marshawn Lynch back then. It was insane! When that dude scored a touchdown, which he scored like FIVE against us that day! It literally rained skittles! People threw skittles from everywhere.
Aannnnd... The end!
OH YEAH! and when the Hawk comes flying out, pre-game, and garlic fries, and so so loud...the best fans ever ! :) I loved Marshawn ... man that guy was strong!
And this is as girlie as I'm gonna get, but geez, they've got such cool looking uniforms; those colors!
I do wear a grin on my face a lot of the time :) My ex-father-in-law, who I still love, used to say, my god Lynnie, you've got a hearty laugh haha

Do not miss the last post from @steemitboard:
Thank you for noticing me @steemitboard.
I watch sport as well, I am still not sure I consider those athletes of the same kind, as we have nothing in common. We share the same oxygen and water on the same planet, but we certainly not wipe our asses with the same toilet paper. One day I will be rich enough to get the triple layered one...
Eh, speaking of that triple layer, softest ever, most valuable wiping material known to Uranus... You know what happens when it’s all said and done ya?
Athletes, presidents, single ply, double ply, senators, Europeans, Americans, it doesn’t matter, before they throw it in the toilet they all looked back at it like a monkey!
:flush:
hahahahah :) There's nothing wrong with being proud of the "work achieved"
I used to be a big time sports junky, as I like to call it. Sitting around vegging on the TV. Honestly now with a family of my own, I can't just sit around and do that. What are we really gaining from watching that. It is just entertainment and that is all. How about we do something that can benefit our future lives, or the lives of our family. Maybe keep your brain engaged and giving it a bit of a workout so to speak. Trying something new, being creative, busting out of your bubble of comfort. That is living Life.
Thanks for the reminder of why I really quit watching so must tv. So I could really start Living...
You have to see this. I saw the Resteem and came over to say thank you..
We replied to me at the same exact time! It was so interesting I took a screen shot. Then it got really interesting when the message from @foodfightfriday vanished. I was like “what happened?!” Then this one came through! Ha. You don’t even have to explain.. it has all of the signs of an exhausted father!
I really appreciate the confidence @jlsplatts, thanks a lot for stopping by! The whole stop paying that machine was a lot easier than I thought. I still pray everyone on the field is safe but that’s as far as it goes.
I have so many pages and browsers open on my PC after I posted it I was like CRAP!! wrong account HAHAHA
You caught me LOL
I’m so appreciative of the support @jlsplatts, really. Man any time something of mine strikes you as Resteem worthy, use whatever account you want, sir, I’ll be saying thank you to all of em.
GO PACK GO
I knew you would make an appearance. And I knew exactly what you would say. I didn’t see the capital letters though.
Thanks for stopping by @carklevicci, it sure is nice seeing you again.
Fab. So engaging.
Looks like the post hf20 bots are starting to say hello. “Hello.”
You’re funny!
lol
I sure do appreciate that Resteem @foodfightfriday. Have I told you lately you’re my favorite Friday of the week?
Ya’all, that wasn’t me that did that. Thank you weirdsplatts, you guys are awesome!
