Some people were born to be early birds, and others... well we are more like night owls.
Since my early teens, when I started doing what I wanted instead of what I was told, I acquired a taste for the night. Internet was THE new thing, so I would spend endless hours discovering this new cyber-space. Nights of excitement, chatting with random people from all over the world, learning how to type fast and testing my patience downloading mp3 through the good old dial-up connection (64 kb/s). Mornings would come and with it the guilty feeling of not having had any sleep. The birds chirping outside would make it even worse, going to bed in plain daylight, birds singing... even traffic noises starting to sound in the background.
My sleep pattern has always been a bit fucked. Insomnia is a good friend of mine. I used to hate it, but with time I´ve managed to find a way to live at ease with it. I don´t see it as a bad thing anymore. Some people are more productive or efficient during mornings and throughout the day. Other find at night the inspiration and energy needed to accomplish things, studying, working or even creating stuff. Luckily I learned how to live with it, not letting guilty feelings affect me anymore.
Some days I like to pretend I am normal, just like everyone. It just takes a few valium after dinner, a little of some good indica strain and a hot shower. Then I might sleep early, specially if I did sports during the day. When I sleep early everything seems odd, like unreal. Waking up early is strange, seeing the sun rising even more. But walking down the street, witnessing the morning life with my own eyes, is nice. I feel more accepted, pretty uplifted, I might even smile to a stranger with all this energy.
Here I am again... 2 am, cold windy night, writing random stuff for strangers from random places. Just like in my teens, just that I have little hair nowadays... old habits die hard.

Yes! I am a night time person too!! Usually I have always had a shift where I have worked later... starting at 10am or even 12pm.... I have just started a new shift for my job working from 7am-3pm now, and here I am at 1am wide awake :)
I will probably be exhausted tommorrow at 3pm, take a nap, and then be wide awake tommorrow night as well haha.. vicious cycle!
At least I work from home so I can stay in my pajamas... makes life a little better haha :)
I used to work at a hotel doing breakfast. 7am.3pm . Would wake up at 6am for the bus ride. After work naps were a 50% chance lol. No fun weekends at al, my days off were monday/tuesday. That was a quiet yet great year.

I think our society is overdue on catering more to people who are night owls. But in the future, as human 9-5 task-type jobs are more and more automated, I could see a shift to being more "open 24hrs" and allowing people to function on different schedules. I guess for orporations, it's just too scary to imagine a world where a large percentage if the workforce may not be willing to be at the office between 9am and 5pm, if they had the option open??
Great point. As soon as the robots take control (not far from now) we will be granted a bit of freedom I reckon.

Wow, this post is almost exactly me (except no insomnia). Always have been a night owl ever since childhood. Worked nights from 7p-7a for about 4+ years after graduating from college. I'm not an insomniac, I just enjoy staying up late at night. It's peaceful! Usually can fall asleep quickly when I try though. Get some sleep, friend!
Night awls are nice. In some cultures the awls mean different things, myths, and so on.

Ugh had insomnia on Friday night after coming home from a great night of spiritual music and learning. Nothing better than exercising that spiritual mind. However it gets my brain hyped up so much so where I cant sleep. I spent the better part of the night staying awake. Only got to bed at 3:00 am. At least I was able to get some sleep... I had music on the brain...
I've stayed up all night writing papers for university. Ugh not fun.. Ild start at 7 write till 5:00 get four hours of sleep then off to class to hand them in. Ah I remember the buzz phase. Miss it in some kind of way... Hearing the birds chirp at 5:00 am was nice and seeing the sunrise. nothing beats it...
Ayyy you hit me over here in the States. Just do you buddy and fulfill your life purpose thats all you can do

I have the same "problem" too, insomnia finds me almost every single night. I tried to play soothing music, listen to the radio and whatever ways I could think of, I just couldn't sleep.
I actually wouldn't see it as a big problem, but I want to force myself to sleep because I have to wake up early to work. I don't really care if I have insomnia in the weekend, but week days is a problem for me.
I know what you mean. The worst is counting the hours you have left til having to wake up. lol
