Weekend Reflections (mostly about nuts)

in #story4 months ago (edited)

As I was working out the other day I was thinking, “What if this planet just exists for the entertainment of other species?” Our society certainly has been like one dramatic and messy reality show as of late.

UFO.jpg

I must not be the only one thinking along these lines because I found the meme above on social media shortly afterwards. It all just makes a person want to retreat into seclusion, try to make their own little paradise, and resurface when some semblance of sanity returns.

Bourdain.jpg

Can you believe this meme from Anthony Bourdain is from just a decade ago? Today, because of how extreme the world has become, this seems out of touch but ten years ago I would say a majority of people shared his opinion. Since then those people who consider themselves "moderates" are fewer and fewer. Much like Bourdain, as I age, I can't help but wonder if my own thoughts and views on things are slowly slipping into the realm of irrelevance.

One thing is for sure, in my fifty-three years on Earth, I never remember there being so much hate. It's a strange, systemic variety of hate too, an undercurrent that runs through the whole of society just waiting for something to spark it. America is beginning to feel like a runaway train at this point but I hope the worst and most destructive outcome is still avoidable.

A friend on Facebook posted this the other day and there was truth in it..."Your relationships with people you know and care about IS your life."

I sincerely hope people don't lose sight of this in the days, weeks, and months to come. The kind of violence like we witnessed in America last weekend isn't the way to deal with political differences in a functioning democracy. I suppose the real question is... it still functioning?

We all spend so much time online sometimes I feel like some people dangerously lose sight of the fact that actions have very real and lasting consequences. We live in an age where large swaths of more than one generation have been raised not understanding the meaning of the word consequence or experiencing it. The only ones who will suffer if something like that act of violence succeeds is the people you know and care about. The world is just completely nuts right now.

Now, for that retreat into seclusion that I mentioned earlier (😂)...we've been getting out to the park quite a bit lately. The days are already getting shorter and the lightning bugs (or fireflies, depending on what part of the country you're from) are starting to show themselves at dusk.

The beauty of Minnesota summer is in full bloom. I swear Minnesota is one of the harshest places on Earth for a good portion of the year (Oct-April). As reward for suffering through the chill of the subzero temps we get a couple months of paradise.

We've been able to make it out to the park to feed the squirrels almost every day. Magoo (the blind squirrel pictured above) is always the first to seek us out. I can't believe how therapeutic having this contact with nature has been for both of us.

The female squirrel in the video below is so tame now she eats out of my hand. She's very gentle with me but is attack mode with the other squirrels. She aggressively chatters and chases them away from us so she gets more walnuts. I swear we're spending half our disposable income on walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, and almonds now.

Speaking of nuts, I have a new addiction. I kid you not, this Nuttzo Chocolate Keto nut butter is 1000% better and healthier than Nutella. I've been having it on toast in the morning and using it for quick energy pre and post workouts. If you can find it try it out. You'll thank me and curse me at the same time because it's so damned addictive. The squirrels won't be getting any of this.

All for now.

The World is nuts right now and I agree with you but the worst problem is that it's going to get nuttier and it's like there's nothing much to be done about it.
The blind squirrel is so cute and bless you that you make out time to feed this "helpless being".... 😊

Your intro and the extraterrestrial visual reminded me of David Icke's latest book "The Dream". Have you read it? I know he is a very controversial guy but in this book, he goes even deeper down the rabbit hole and some of the things he reveals are chilling, to say the least. When I first read it I thought "This is nuts" but after listening to more and more people reveal similar information about the nature of our reality, you stop and ponder.
I haven't been to Minnesota but I heard about the harsh winter from a family of four who I went on a dive trip with at the Great Barrier Reef a few years back. Your furry friend is adorable 🥰

I haven't read that particular book but have seen Icke interviewed a few times. One of my wife's cousins, Regina Meredith has interviewed him. He has some very wild theories! Billy Carson and a few others' theories are somewhat aligning with his also. I like to take in as many different perspectives as I can. The winters are awful here, just just extreme but long. During the worst of years you can count on eight months of very bad weather. We've grown to look so forward to our time in the park. We have to take advantage of the nice weather before the snow starts flying again. : ) I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend Krisz!

I remember you telling me that you're related to Regina. That's amazing. Such a small world.
Regina is a wonderful and very pleasant interviewer. I watched several of her interviews on Gaia. She had David Icke and Billy Carson numerous times on her show. Billy Carson's knowledge on Ancient Egypt is phenomenal. I even looked into his Egypt tours as I'd love to access the pyramids outside the usual opening hours and get the "non-mainstream" version of the story. History as we're being spoonfed is beyond ridiculous.

Oh, I had forgotten we had that discussion. The Egypt tour would be amazing. His explanation for the purpose of the pyramids seem spot on. I'm a fan of Graham Hancock too. Everyone's findings are coming into alignment with what Edgar Cayce said. Humanity is much, much older that we've been taught and there have been several times in our history where civilization has progressed beyond the point we are now. Pretty incredible!

Sounds pretty delicious to me! Sad thing is we might have to deal with all of this again in a couple of months. I don't see any scenario where there isn't some kind of upheaval and that is both sad and scary to me.

It really is, expensive though so I use in sparingly (which isn't easy). Ugh, I shudder at the thought of how bad it'll get this fall, before and after the election. The political landscape seems infinitely more charged than it did in 2016. I think we'll see Biden drop out this coming week and they'll pick a new candidate during the DNC in August.

Really? You think that is going to happen? He seems so adamant about staying in no matter what.

Yep, Biden just announced he was dropping out about 45 minutes ago. I think they'll choose Hillary as the nominee at the convention.

Oh gosh, that's won't go over well at all. They may as well just hand it to Trump at that point! I've been on the road, so I had not even heard that.

It'll be a miracle if they're able to pull off a win after this...and the plot thickens! I hope you're enjoying this Sunday my friend!

Thanks, just got home from camping so a little good and a little bad :)

So is a world full of hatred for the ambition of power harming other people, good that you have domestic squirrels and feed them in your hand, because these animals are very fast and in little case are domestic.

I think that this meme/quote will last for a long time since us, humanity, go full circle of extremism.

Wow brother, spending time in the park feeding squirrels sounds so peaceful. Nature really helps clear the mind. That's one hell of a cute squirrel

Thanks!

Always welcome big brother

Our world, Earth is nuts. I bet those Aliens are hooked on our show and can't wait for the grande finale... Last Saturday's attack was insane, no matter which side you're rooting for. This is not how human beings should 'settle' differences. Nuff said 😿

Glad you get to spend summer time in the park. I'm currently sitting on our balcony and I frequently have squirrels pass me by jumping through the trees. Sometimes they stop, rest and look at me intently. There were a couple of times they even jumped onto the balcony - LOL - but we don't feed them. They're so cute I must have a gazillion photos of them, a whole lot that are blurred because those little buggers move lightning fast - they're soooo cute.

Lol, they probably have to limit their viewing time or else they'd get nothing else done! Very much agreed. It makes me shudder to think how close we were to all out catastrophe. I believe we've collectively, as a species, just about lost our minds.

Thanks, it's been a great escape. Good, I'm not the only one then! Now that our beagle is no longer with us I'm pretty sure 99.9% of the pictures on my camera roll are of the squirrels. : )

That Nuttzo treat looks very tempting... I hope it won't hit the shelves here anytime soon :))

It tastes like toasted coconut smothered in dark chocolate. It's also $12 a jar so I have to restrain myself. ; )

The world already looks like “conspiracyland”. I think that the latest events in several countries of the world make me believe that we are losing the war against sanity, moderation and intelligence. Every day I wake up and it is a different problem. Today I was shocked by the riots going on in Bangladesh. I'm not much of a religious person, but it seems like apocalyptic times. I hope we are able to, like a driver waking up to the rush, take the reins of the wheel and get back on the safe road.
As for the squirrels, I find it a very relaxing activity. I have read that when people have good vibes, animals and children approach them (of course if they have nuts, they have advantages. hahaha).
And as for the nut butter it looks delicious. In particular, I have a weakness for the coconut flavor. I think it's my favorite taste and smell on earth.
A big hug, my friend and a restful Sunday.

It certainly can seem like the world is falling apart sometimes, especially if we watch the news. I can't even stomach it anymore. When I was in Ohio visiting my family my Mom would start out most days watching the local news and I couldn't believe how that would start the day off in such a negative state. That daily commune with nature has been one of our saving graces this year! If you like coconut you would love this stuff! I hope you enjoy what's left of your weekend, Nancy! We just had a huge storm pass through but now the sun is shining so I may try to get out on my bike before it decides to rain again.

So is my mother. Sometimes I tell her not to see so many negative things, but she scolds me that we must be “informed. hahaha. Hopefully you can take your walk quietly and take advantage of the sun. Here it is a week before the elections. Take care of yourself and a hug

I used to feel that way too. It's almost as if you have to "detox" from the media before you can see how it truly effects you. The bike ride was wonderful, just want the doctor ordered! I hope your week is starting off well!

Wow, what a very cute and adorable squirrel. What a good person you are, Eric. You are willing to spend your money to buy food for the squirrels. May God bless you.

Thank you. Bless you too Eliana!

Making a squirrel monopolizing you when you come feed her isn't safe😂😂😂

She may become dependent on your nuts.😂

I never knew squirrels could be this domesticated, I always thought they were too wild to come very close to people.

The way he understands you and runs at your calls is beautiful 😍

It's taken a few years for them to get this used to us and there are only three of the thirty or so that live in the park that will eat from our hand. It's really quite amazing how smart they are and how the recognize us.

So that in the picture above it looks pretty good, I like to see it.Good morning for today and hopefully the best will always be for you my friend.
