A few days ago the photo above “leaked” on social media. The picture allegedly reveals the next iteration of the Tesla Model 3, dubbed Project Highland which is rumored to be released later this year.
This is exciting for a number of reasons. Tesla is known to drastically improve manufacturing quality with each redesign. They also tend to look for ways to use what they’ve learned to make manufacturing of new models cheaper and more efficient than previous ones so this should translate to lower sticker prices.
Except for a few cosmetic changes, the Model 3 design has largely remained the same since its launch in 2017. Today I stumbled across what is clearly a render based on the leaked photo.
Based on what I’ve gathered of Project Highland this render is very close to what the new car will look like. I see design cues in the new Model 3 from the, as yet, unreleased Tesla Roadster. The front-end is definitely sleeker, which should improve the drag coefficient rating and allow for more miles of range.
After owning a 2022 Model 3 Long Range for about seven months and living with it through the worst weather that Mother Nature can conjure, I can say it’s the best car I’ve owned in my thirty-seven years of driving. It’s also a car that most people could easily and happily live with. It's faster, more fun to drive, safer, and (now that I have access to Level 2 charging) less costly to operate than even my Toyota Prius. Right now the biggest barrier is price, they aren’t cheap.
The big test for me was leaving the car for six weeks while we traveled to Arizona for a winter break. As sad as I was to leave the beauty and warmth of the desert I found myself excited to come back to the car. As we were planning to leave for Sedona I was really worried I’d come home to a dead battery since I didn’t have a way to plug the car in at home. I charged the car to 80% just before we boarded our flight and six weeks later I came home to a car with 76% of the charge left.
This translated to an impressive 4% of charge-loss in six weeks. Our garage was heated to 55 degrees and I only checked the Tesla app on my phone once a week because doing so wakes the car up from Deep Sleep mode, and can drain the battery. If the car wasn’t in a heated garage the charge-loss would have been greater.
Having only ever driven traditional gasoline powered cars, the first several months of EV ownership were fraught with anxieties. In hindsight, most of the fears were just based on the unknown, some of them were born of fairly substantial disinformation campaigns.
Over the past few months Model 3 has masterfully and confidently put each of my fears and anxieties to rest. This first experience with leaving the car for a long period of time has cured my final fear.
As this tech gets more efficient and affordable, I’m excited for more people to experience it. Is it perfect? Definitely not, but it’s better in so many ways, in lots of use-cases, for many drivers and the world is about to figure this out on a massive scale.
In this age of polarized opinions and viewpoints I see many people either demonizing EVs or petrol-powered vehicles. It seems you either have to be on one team or another but I see a diverse mix of different powertrains (gasoline, synthetic fuel, hydrogen, EVs) getting us from point A to B on the highways of our near future. For now, I’m happy to be driving a glimpse of that future, my Model 3.
All for now. Trust your instincts, invest in you, live boldly, and take chances.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. I've never owned a car, since I don't really feel I'd need one for my lifestyle, but if it had to be one, I think I'd go for a Tesla (were they a lil more affordable!). Though I wonder how long Tesla will keep an edge over other brands? I imagine they'd seek to learn and adapt their own styles to all these neat little things that are presently setting Tesla apart.
Cars are so expensive in general. Most of the EVs carry a higher up-front cost but they cost you significantly less over the years of ownership. I'm not sure if it equals out in the end or if one is less expensive overall. Tesla is releasing their Model 2 in a year or so that's supposedly going to be a compact version of the Model Y. That should start at around $25K and they're prepping to make around 4M of them. I think Tesla has a fairly large lead on the other EV manufacturers but some of the German, Chinese, and Korean brands are already making decent headway. American legacy automakers are having a bit more of a struggle. I'm hearing decent things about the Chevy Bolt but GM is losing around $9k on each of them they sell. Where they'll all have a very difficult time catching up is when it comes to the self-driving tech and the vehicles' OS, it's so intuitive and convenient.
Wow, that is cool that it only lost that small amount of charge. I never would have guessed it would be that small. It sounds like you are really settling into owning your Tesla. I am glad because I know how excited you were about getting it!
Yeah, I was pretty amazed. We had our son check the car's screen to see what the battery level was at because my wife and I thought our apps weren't correct. It's nice to be to the point where the anxieties are behind me and I can just enjoy driving it. I saved and planned for four years to get the 3. A buddy of mine and I took one for a test drive in spring of 2018 and that sealed the deal for me. The 2022 feels like a different car than that one did though, they've made so many improvements in those four years, mostly via over-the-air updates. The 0-60 time for the 2018 was in the mid-5s range and my 2022 will reach 60mph in around 4.2s.
That's just crazy. I'd probably get in trouble with a zero to 60 time like that. I have a bit of a lead foot. I look forward to seeing the continued improvements in this sector.
%4 of charge loss in six week is amazing, perhaps this is what should be in a electric car.
I was thinking the app wasn't accurate after the first week because I had heard it was normal for the car to lose 1-3% of charge in just a few days. Thankfully, it wasn't glitching. I won't have to worry as much now that I have to leave it for weeks at a time.
Only successful people are those who learn from mistakes in life, the way we see that Tesla had some mistakes in the beginning which made people stop buying it, but now this is how we see it. is that on every new model they upgrade something or the other which makes people more happy and they flock to that vehicle. After each new model comes, the decision car is updated and its quality is improved. This model look has is very beautiful and people will definitely buy it when they see it.
Leaving things we love so much for a long time is enough to make us feel anxious. But I'm sure your Tesla car will be fine because Tesla is the best car at the moment. Have a nice day, Eric.
It was definitely a worry to leave it, but like so many things in life all the worries were unfounded. I hope you have a great rest of your weekend Eliana!
I am in doubt if to go with Tesla X or BMW iX as I feel the Beemer has more to offer in terms of quality. Still Tesla beats everyone at autonomy and technology... how would you grade Tesla comfort and interior design quality?
You couldn't go wrong with either of those choices from what I've seen. I, personally, would go with Tesla just based on the charging network and their tech. I've heard the X is a bit like driving a VERY fast bus. It's much bigger than it appears to be at first glance. I'd recommend test driving both if you can.
My Model 3 is extremely comfortable but the interior design quality probably isn't up BMW standards, to be honest. I would equate it to Toyota quality, which isn't bad but isn't exactly luxurious. Tesla's cabins tend to be more minimalistic, which I like, because that means less things to break. The best way I can describe the Tesla driving experience is Zenlike until you step on the accelerator and then it transforms itself into something close to a supercar. It feels like stepping a decade into the past when I drive a traditional car now.
Hello dear friend @ericvancewalton good morning
Your car is really great, I love its shape and all the features you mention, it's good that it only consumed 4% of the battery.
I appreciate that you let us know about this experience, that you continue to enjoy your car a lot
have a great day
Thank you my friend, it's good to hear from you! I hope you and the family are doing well!
Companies are offering new designs and advanced fuel efficient cars in the development of technology. We should definitely take advantage of these.
Surprised the charge didn't lose much percent despite it not been used for six weeks.
I was pleasantly surprised!
Yes, of course, I remember you saying that your car battery only dropped four percent in six weeks and after that I found out that these are all rumors that we hear about the Tesla.
There's lots of disinformation being spread about EVs in general. I think a lot of it originates from companies and organizations that profit from petroleum products.

Tesla is really a good product with it quality but as we know it also have it disadvantage which is normal to experience as well.
4%? That's great, Eric! I never thought it would be discharged so little. Venezuela is an oil country, but even so, there are plenty of electric and gas cars in the country. However, the wastefulness of this government and the bad economic policies, not to mention that there is no maintenance of any kind, all services have collapsed and there are many vehicles parked for lack of gas, electricity, parts and even gasoline. For example, today the electric power was restored after two days. Anyway, we better start the week in good spirits and with excellent demonstrations for this week. Have a nice Monday, Eric. Hugs
It was a huge surprise to me too! I'm sorry to hear about the the situation in your country. Is there any chance someone new could be voted in anytime soon? Thank you Nancy. Hugs to you as well!
37 years of driving? Wow, what a great experience you've acquired over the years.
Meanwhile, I sp much love the design of the car in the second photo. It looks simple and sleek.
EV arguably ventures in the future and also makes it sustainable. While that is true the contour of transitioning may not be smooth because of affordability, and even more so adaptation and mitigation could be a trade-off for many.
Looking just awesome.
Curious to know about the price?
The new Tesla Model 3 is turning heads, but let's not forget the trusty, repairable Toyota Yaris. Like a loyal friend who's always got your back, the Yaris boasts reliability, affordability, and a repairable nature that's like having a personal pit crew. While the Model 3's electric charm is undeniable, consider the Yaris as a pocket-friendly alternative. You can even find them at car auctions, where deals are as sweet as grandma's apple pie.
