As I shared in my recent post, New Year, Old Goals I’m looking to breathe new life into my writing career in 2025. To remain still and stagnant isn't really living after all.
I’m unsure whether to call it my second-act (or is it my third?), some kind of mid-life crisis, or Eric 2.0. Perhaps I just haven’t said everything I’d like to say quite yet. My muse has been particularly chatty lately, which is a wonderful thing.
I’ve been posting sporadically on the Medium platform for over a decade (even before finding Steemit) with little luck but just yesterday become a member and joined their affiliate “Partner” program for the first time. The Partner Program pays writers for the engagement their posts receive. If you enjoy my writing I encourage you to give me a follow over there. I’ll be posting some exclusive content on Medium and just generally experimenting with how the platform works.
Quite honestly, I haven’t felt this kind of enthusiasm for taking things, “to the next level” for quite a number of years and I almost forgot how exhilarating it feels. Life is funny. Just when you think you're going to set your life on cruise-control things can change pretty quickly.
Hive will remain my “home” but as I embark on this second/third-act I could think of no good reason not to branch out and try to reach a broader audience. There are many other exciting opportunities in the works of which I can’t wait to share more about soon! Just to be clear—I have no intention of scaling back or changing my involvement here on Hive in any way in the near future. There's no time like the present to get those cardboard wings a flappin'.
Do any of you have experience with Medium? If so I’d love to hear any advice you might have to share.

I’ve never tried Medium myself, but I bet your unique voice will stand out there. Can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes you. I might just create a whole medium account just to follow you there
Thank you. It's getting more and more difficult to stand out on these platforms but I'm adopting the attitude of, I'll put in the work and if it's meant to be it will happen. Kind of my life-philosophy. : ) I want to try to drive a lot of writers to Hive as well. A majority of people on Medium are making little to nothing so it’s a perfect environment for onboarding more content creators to Hive.
woah, that's a brilliant plan, I guess the earnings are more on Hive than on Medium. I for one have see more monetary value form Hive in the few weeks I've been around than on any platform ever
You asked the universe to write, and look how you got what you asked for!!! I had never heard of Medium before and if I read about it, I don't remember it. Anyway, the important thing is your enthusiasm to start this new project and that seems to me fundamental to start anything. I know you will do well, my friend, as always! Yes! Medium has been around for a really long time. I dabbled with it for a year before finding Steemit in 2016. I think I just, generally, have more enthusiasm now to take my writing in different directions in general. There are so many other things I'm working on. I guess I never really switched back into hustle-mode after we stopped our traveling in 2023 but now I'm kicking that back into high gear. Thank you Nancy! I hope you enjoy your weekend my friend.

I created an account awhile ago and I think I was part of the partner program, but I don't quite remember. I think I was doing a bit of cross posting from Hive and stuff. I thought my writing would get more engagement than it did. I'm sure you won't have that issue. Good luck! If I still have the app installed I'll give you a follow.
Much appreciated! Most of my content on there will be cross-posted but I think I'll try to do one or two exclusive posts a month over there. These platforms can be really tricky to break into. Sometimes I think a lot of it is just chalked up to luck. If someone shares something you've written and it goes viral then you're "off to the races". So far I've made $.09 so I can it can only get better from there. : )
Haha, I hope it does get better for you! $.09 is probably more than I ever made on there. I think you are right, a lot of it is probably luck, but I think that luck is multiplied when you have good content. You should be okay :)

I tried registering on Medium some 6 years ago but unfortunately my country wasn't accepted. Congrats for being accepted into the partnership program, I hope you reach the new heights you're seeking with your writing career.

Thanks! That's one of my goals, actually! I feel like there's a great opportunity to on-board frustrated authors over there. My guess is even the lowest paid blogger on Hive is making more than 95% of authors on Medium.

You are a veteran. I am a newbie, in writing, although I had a longer discovery phase than most. It will presumably be watched closely by many, with great curiosity, as to what success you find there versus here.
No. I only have seen what you certainly will know far more about. The references to the originality of content and how certain portions of the Hive community seem to go about enforcing that.
I wish you well in your new endeavor, as you are honestly expressing some renewed enthusiasm. I can imagine and appreciate that and hope it all works out as you have envisioned.
Steemit/Hive was the first time in my life the "stars aligned" so to speak. Although my active followers have greatly decreased over the past few years here there were a few years that were pretty amazing. I feel lucky that I got to experience this, even if it's just once. Medium is so different it's hard to know how things will turn out but it should prove to be interesting. Thank you!
