Geniuses inspired by the drink of the Devil - Absinthe

in #story7 years ago (edited)

The absinthe was "the green muse" for Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Victor Hugo, Hemingway and many other artists.

They consider that absinthe is one of the most elite alcoholic beverages, because there is no other drink that is so favored by artists, writers and poets as absinthe. They did not just drink absinthe - they devoted their drink to their famous works. In their view, absinthe awakened their artistic imagination and traced paths to "devilish" revelations from the depths of the soul.

Perhaps it is not by chance that they call the Absinthe "drink of the Devil" and the "green muse" of poets and artists. The myths of the mysterious influence of absinthe on creative potential makes this drink the most fashionable drink in Western Europe in the mid-19th century. The assumption that Absinthe possesses narcotic properties and hides the danger of addiction does not bother at least the Paris bohemian. Soon, the green muse has become "settled" in the 19th century painting, cinema and literature.

Absinthe dedicates his work to Claude Monet. Under the influence of absinthe, a whole array of famous artists, writers and poets such as Charles Baudelaire, Emil Zola, Victor Hugo, Toulouse-Lautrec, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and many others, create unique works. etc. Who are the most famous lovers of absinthe?

The most prominent of them is the artist Vincent Van Gogh. His letters testify to him that he drank absinthe on a daily basis. As it is known, the genius artist suffered from a mental disorder, he received epileptic seizures but did not give up drinking. At the end of his life, he was already an addicted alcoholic, or rather an absentia.
The greenish-yellow color of absinthe even touched his paintings. They are all in the green-yellow tone. According to experts, overdosing by absinthe leads to changes in color perception. It is very possible that this is the reason for the predominant yellow tone in Van Gogh's paintings. "He sees everything in yellow tones!", Cried once a critic and these words constantly mark the further analysis of Van Gogh's works.

One of Paris's greatest bohemians, the poet Paul Verlaine, chants absinthe in his first works. He and his youngster, Arthur Rimbaud, went to the pubs of Paris every night in the company of drunks and prostitutes. Verlaine was literally obsessed with absinthe.
Unpleasant events make him later to curse him, but he does not give up on him until his death. For the first time he called the "green witch" drink in "Confession" (1895). Soon after, he even proclaimed the prohibition of absinthe as a "source of insanity, crime, idiocy and disgrace." And what is the reason so suddenly to change the attitude to your favorite drink? "A series of madness, night and night, as he himself says: he started to beat his wife, once he tried to fire her, then he fired a gun and wounded his friend Rembe, a knife attacking an old woman on the street, to take her money ... When he realized soberly about what he had done, he thought he was very sorry and was ashamed of himself. In words he cursed the "devilish" drink, but anyway he died with a bottle of absinthe under his pillow.

A fan of absinthe was Charles Cross, an encyclopedic personality composed of the poet, physicist, chemist, artist and musician Cross. He drank 20 drinks a day from the devilish green, but he was a unique brain. It is believed that in 1877 only for financial reasons could not patente the first phonograph before Thomas Edison.

One of the brightest advocates of absinthe when society begins to discuss its detrimental influence on people's psyche is the greatest magician of all time, Aleister Crowley. He even dedicated an essence of absinthe - "The Green Goddess".

One of the genius absentees was Ernest Hemingway. He continued to drink absinthe even after the drink was banned in many countries of the world. Absinthe was banned in 1905 when a Swiss, Jin Landfrey, under the influence of absinthe, killed his whole family, then attempted suicide. The news has led many countries to ban absinthe by law. Hemingway, however, was now literally addicted to the "green fairy". While writing in Cuba, "The Old Man and the Sea", in letters he prayed to friends from Florida to send him "somehow" ... absinthe.

Interesting to know they liked their absinthe. Personally wouldn't drink it all the time because that shit is deadly at times haha XD

yeah I know what you mean. When I drink some nice shots and then comes the closing time I get one with absinthe for KO!

It's definitely a KO if you have drunk a lot before that abs shot.

Wow! Thanks for that post. It was very interesting! Cheers!

Must warn you about this drink. A friend gave it to me once and I passed out after 3rd shot, just blacked out and woke up on the floor in front of the bar.
