Once there was a poor woodcutter.
During the rainy season he could not
earn money. For several days and
nights he had nothing to eat. He made
a long journey on foot in search of
some job.
On the way he came across a well.
When he was passing by the well he
heard “Help, Help”. The woodcutter
peeped into the well. He saw a
monkey, a tiger, a snake, and a
jeweller trapped in it.
They cried again, “Take us out”. The
woodcutter was in a fix. If he pulled out
the snake and the tiger, they might kill
him. He said, “When you come out, you
will bite me or kill me.” The tiger and
the snake said, “We are not so thankless
as to harm our saviour.” The woodcutter
took all of them out. They thanked him
and said, “It will be a great pleasure if
we can be of any help to you,” and went
away.
