THE ACT OF GIVING

in #story6 years ago

On one Sunday afternoon, a small group of students cheerfully came out of the church from their Bible study. The church, which was located on the outskirts of the city, was small yet attended by all kinds of people alike. Two particular friends came out last and left together to the entrance gate.

The first one was Penny. She is one of the most kind-hearted and charitable soul among her peers. She is friends with Silvia the other friend who was Penny’s best friend. Penny is from a middle-class family and thus her parents are always busy at ends meet. But they always were a happy family and as well as biblical of their way of life. Unlike Penny, Silvia is from a wealthy family, she is a bit of an active child in her family. She loves to read, mostly the ones related to adventure and heroes. So she always aims higher than most of her batch.

On their way, they discussed;

“Silvia, today was a good bible study, wasn’t it?”

“Yes, it was, Penny.”

“Isn’t your car coming to pick you up?”

“My chaperone is here already. Come, Penny, I’ll give you a ride.”

“Thanks, Silvia.”

The dropped by to pick both girls up and drove to Penny’s home. The car stopped at the red light and just then, a disabled beggar approached the car, begging for alms. Both girls looked out the window and offered. Penny reached her hand into her bag and handed all her money to the beggar. Silvia offered whatever leftovers she had in her lunch box to the beggar.

The beggar held both items and returned a smiled of gratitude. She then turned around and left for the sidewalk while thanking them continuously. Both girls were waving back at her also with a smile on their faces. The lights turned green and the driver took off.

The driver interrupted the girls gleeful moment with his query,

“Little Miss, may I ask the both of you, why do you involve yourselves to these beggars? Yes, they are misfortuned fellows who would continue to beg on to comfort themselves a bit for a while. But just offering them this just temporarily feeds them by a little. There is no point if they cannot be saved from their sad fate.”

Both girls looked at each other and replied respectively,

“I believe doing a good deed every day is important.” claimed Penny, “We are all of a Christian family serving others is serving God. if I was in their shoes, I would want to live and have a good life too. But I would mostly be suffering because I would’ve nothing.”

Silvia than continued to Penny’s answer, “And just like the Lord advised his disciples that ‘To offer a man a fish, you feed him for a day. But teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.’ So I would like to do the same when I grow up.”

With that, the driver smiled and faced forward. He was sure that these girls were thought they were supposed to.

With a satisfied answer been heard, he believed the world would be a little brighter because of their purity and hope for the future.

I remembered that I had given a homeless cat food when I was a child. I think that is no good. they have to find food by themselves.

There are always times when we would lack to help. We could do only so much.
There are also times when baggers become cons. We could only believe in them so little.

That's why I thought, "What if I could give them some Chances to earn back their life while I teach them how to use It?"

This might Turn their fate around.
