Presentation Pick Draft Day - Part 2

in #story7 years ago

Disclaimer: The events as given are true as the only thing changed were the names of the parties involved.

Part 1

Characters

Old Man Gunner (absolute perv and believes he can say and do as he pleases)

Casino Casey (middle aged woman who sleeps through 90% of classes and said she is trying to be a positive role model for her children)

Ken (well known political strategist, professor, and envelope pusher if it makes sense)

Carrie (extremely likeable, highest GPA and everyone is appreciative of her as a person)

Larry the Librarian (also a very likeable guy sometimes a bit too meticulous)

Jacob (just a guy trying to finish his undergraduate studies)

Class (mostly people there to get their job done and be over it all)

Fast-forward two weeks from our initial draft and 1 week until actual presentation

Gunner to Class: The only way to get our message across is that I bring a few of my favorite guns to campus.

Carrie to Gunner: No, that’s just a terrible idea!

Gunner to Carrie: No worries I’ll do what I need to for our group.

Ken to Class: Has anyone seen Casey?

Jacob asks Ken speaking in private just outside of the class

Jacob: Just before stepping outside receives a text message from Casey. The text is asking to relay a message to the professor saying he needs to call her because she doesn’t have time for school. With that being said, Casey’s thoughts are Ken should give her the exam over the phone.

Ken: Overcome with the moment bursts into laughter and proceeds to utter the words “Hell No! Who does she think she is?”

Larry to Jacob: I’m not sure what that Casey’s problem is. Not only has she not contributed anything but she wants to change what you and I had already done.

Jacob to Larry: I refuse to let her screw up my grade so the only thing we can do is take on all of the work and prop up a lucky fool.

Week 4 (presentation day)

Setting: Everyone or at least everyone is dressed as though they are going for an interview and really excited as it took a lot of work getting to this point. Looking around the class two faces are noticeably missing. The people missing are Gunner and Casey.

Jacob to Carrie: Where’s Merv the Perv?

Carrie to Jacob: You didn’t hear?

Jacob to Carrie: Hear what. What happened?

Carrie to Jacob: Someone told campus security he planned to bring weapons to the school. The police got involved the chancellor and a ton of others. They gave him an option of letting the police come into his home or be expelled. He told them to f*ck off and he was going back to sleep.

Jacob to Carrie: Are you serious? So he got expelled? That is insane. Oh well whatever I guess.

Carrie to Jacob: Where is your group’s leader? (In a joking manner)

Jacob to Carrie: If you’re speaking about Casey that lazy bastard said she couldn’t get off work. I knew she was lying because I have friends that work at the same place as her and everyone was off work that day. She said she can give the presentation over speakerphone and I just gave her something to say that would prevent us from looking like absolute morons.

Carrie to Jacob: What does Larry think about it?

Jacob to Carrie: He doesn’t care anymore and says he just wants it to all be over.

Carrie’s group goes on without a hitch and Jacob’s group is now up.

Both Larry and Jacob are very engaging as for getting the crowd involved and heightening the energy. Then it gets really awkward really fast.

Jacob calls Casey and you can hear someone who sounds as though they’d been on a month long bender and riding the wave of failure until it would fall out from the bottom.

Nondescript sounds and chatter can be heard in the background. As the volume is raised they become even clearer. At this point it becomes obvious where she is as you can hear slot machines, and other talk that sounds very much like a casino.

Casey to Class: Words that don’t make sense and more words that don’t make sense. Then abruptly hangs up.

Jacob to Class: My apologies (has to then improv to make up for the sh*t show that just took place)

Moral of the story is you can't always chose who's on your team you just have to make the best with it and move on
