A Lost Bronte Novel
by Writer Unknown
Shane Jones is a generous and popular orphan raised by a forgetful and ruthless wolf. Eventually he gets a job working as a shopkeeper for the virtuous Lord Khan of Khan Bungalow. The unlikely couple rapidly succumb to a tender passion.
On the day of their wedding, a tactless matron escapes from the attic of Khan Bungalow and starts a fire. Believing that Lord Khan is dead, Shane flees from the church and wanders the frozen moors for days until he is rescued by a brave hairdresser.
However, although Lord Khan is blinded by the fire, he still breathes. Without Shane he becomes stupid and selfish. He turns to alcohol for comfort. The ghost of the matron from the attic haunts him.
Meanwhile, thinking Lord Khan is dead, Shane accepts a marriage proposal from his saviour, the hairdresser. However, one night he believes he can hear Lord Khan calling, "Shane, where are you? Shane come home!" and he returns to Khan Bungalow.
On Shane's return, he finds Lord Khan drunk and without sight. Mistaking him for the ghost of the tactless matron, he attacks him with a knife and Shane Jones dies.
As he attends to the body, Lord Khan realises what he has done. Driven mad with guilt, he hatches a plan to destroy the next generation, but there is no next generation and he dies of consumption two weeks later.
