Never lose hope !
A true life story of a friend "Bamidele"
When he was in the university, in his 3rd year. He felt life was over as he strangely considered the thought of quitting schooling because things began to get worse than expected, so it became very difficult to cope financially. His uncle suffered great loss in his business (being the sole sponsor of his education) and it had an irrevocable consequences on his academics.
Unable to get money for transport, Dele would trek about 10 km everyday to campus, things were so difficult to the extent that this guy started begging for food from friends. He was studying 4 yrs program ...Imagine 4yrs and being in part 3 with only a year left to complete his education and get his first degree. To quit at this level was never a rational thought to be welcomed but something urgently needed to be done to avoid such pitfall. He summoned the courage with the hope that everything would be okay by taking a bold step to salvage his academic career. He started organising tutorial for his fellow students both on campus and off campus. This justifies one saying that ...
nobody is getting paid for having brain but by actively engaging the brain in solving problems.
Through this newfound knowledge, he managed to feed himself and pay up his bills in school. He graduated from the school with second class upper (which is not really a bad one). He enrolled for the National Youth Services Corp program which is mandatory exercise for every graduate in my country where the students are posted to various geopolitical zones for the purpose of inculcating the distinct customs and values of various tribes (being a heterogeneous society) in them to promote the national unity.
Gushed! The batch list was out finally, It was a frightening news, when i heard that my friend was posted to Borno state in the Northern part of my country, a community greatly ravaged by incessant terrorist attack (the bokoharam).
Before ariving at any further decision, a line has to be bravely drawn to weigh up chances, possibilities and risks involved in order not to set himself up for an irreparable loss. We only live once, hence we need to value our lives. But surprisingly he did the unexpected, despite the fact that he still struggled to make the ends meet. He engaged himself in some menial jobs to raise the transport fare and embarked on the journey to Maiduguri (Borno State) which if travelled by bus, it would take about 18hrs , 1hr by air but due to his inability to raise enough money, he had to board lorry which took him as long as 30hrs.
He spent a full year in that not-terror free environment helping the vulnerable, young children realised their dreams through his selfless service to the community. He participated in some humanitarian movements targeted at improving life generally in this community. He forgot everything about himself and lived his life for others, being in a challenging situations can indeed produce fruits of joy in people who choose to take control of their circumstances.
Immediately after Bamidele completed his one year service corp, got a job with a company who gave him a mouthwatering offer. Once in a moment, he'd almost lost all hopes when the going was getting tougher as the thought to drop out from the school lingered but he refused to succumb to the pressures and consequently he got his rewards in the end.
I want to encourage you to Keep on firing until you hit the target because I know that there will always be light at the end of the turnel.
