Peter had a lovely day out with Mary, they went all around town to places they both know and yet never saw each other. recalling how often they go to these places they realised just how close they have been. Like living their lives only seconds apart.
Their worlds finally became in-sync and that is all that mattered.
Now nearing the end of the day, they contemplate letting go. Would He be there tomorrow? Would she be lost in time?
"I don't want to go." Mary says to Peter as they walk down yet another street, "Can't we just keep walking?" She pleads, her eyes watery.
Peter stops walking and Mary takes another step before he tugs her hand and she looks back at him, "Well, I do have a couch." Peter says then smirks.
Mary smiles, and slaps him on the shoulder. "I am silly aren't I."
Peter begins to walk again, her hand still in his and after a moment says: "Not silly, just a bit caught up, but you are right eventually we will need to figure out what is next."
Mary squeezes his hand a bit firmer, "For now let's not have the city steal any more time from us."
Mary and Peter made their way to his house and collected some clothes and necessities since he thought it would be best for him to sleep over by her. Mary found the consideration quite sweet, Peter knew she would.
They had pizza for dinner and stayed up talking until a sleepy silence took over. Peter leaned into the couches armrest as Mary lay with her head on his lap, he rested his hand on her shoulder and as both enjoyed their own thoughts of the day and possibly musings of what may come tomorrow. Peter began to play with her hair, after sometime, Mary jumped up and said "Ok now we sleep. Tomorrow will be great."
Smiling back at her Peter just nodded and put his legs on the couch and Mary threw the blanket over him then handed him the pillows that were waiting on the other couch.
"Sleep well little Mary." Peter said, Mary blushed and walked to the light switch to turn it off, then whispered back "Sleep well pumpkin Peter."
Turning off the light, Mary lingered a bit and listened as Peter made himself comfortable on the couch. It really was a great day they spent together, and she was happy they were not interested in jumping each others bones on their first evening together.
It had been almost two years that they have lived with the lucid dreams of each other, more than lucid. Dreams that were real but also just dreams. Mary could not explain it but she knew that this was the perfect ending to their first real world meeting.
Mary got into her own bed and and pulled her duvet over, it had been quite the energetic day and soon she found herself asleep, she tried recalling when her head lay down on the pillow. She could not.
Peter was also spent after the day of walking and talking. Usually the only talking he does are customer orders and matters of the heart with random birds on the sidewalk, those pigeons are not very empathetic, so today was definitely something extra.
Drifting off to sleep quicker than he has in a long time, Peter did not long for dreaming, Mary was here now and there was no need for him to dream of seeing her.
That did not mean he would not dream of her, how could he not his entire sense was filled with her now.
His mind was replaying the day, not in the exact way it occured because how could he remember it all. It was just replaying quiet moments. They were sitting at the coffee shop, Mary sat opposite him and he leaned over to brush her hair behind her ear.
That never happened, and that is why his mind was replaying it.
Next they were in the park, sitting against a tree, she was leaning more into him and whisper reading him the book she had bought which made her find him in the first place. As she whispered the words, which he could not hear above the loudness of his heart. He turned just enough to gently brush her cheek with his hand, look into her eyes and give her a long soft kiss on the lips.
The dream evaporated as Peter took control, he knew dreams would always just do what they want but that was more when he was not so aware, and surely he is aware now since he made the kiss stop and each scene was in a way approved by him.
His mind would flick through the day, then present him with a moment, Peter would accept it by not resisting his mind playing through it. This was different. His thought was to merely kiss her on the cheek again.
It seemed silly, but Peter did not like overstepping boundaries of that nature , even in his dreams.
He liked things to be linked, one step after the other, and some might say that removed spontaneity but it makes spontaneity feel even better when it does occur.
Peter changed the dream, he thought of him and her on-top of their mountain again. The one from their shared dream, where he met her. They have not had those completely again, he wondered if they would now. Now that they have finally met in the real world.
He could not see her clearly, not like he could with the fresh memories of the day, that is how he knew it was not really her there. On the mountain top they stood, a giant tree with purple flowers adorning the heaven and providing shade that felt more like an embrace than just coolness.
