My country !!!

in #story7 years ago

As I said, here is my story about my country Macedonia. Hope you like it! I know that a small percent of people know about Macedonia. And that’s why I am making this story, so I can educate you and show you the beauty of this land. In this story I`ll introduce you to Macedonia and its capital city Skopje !!!

             **Macedonia**

Macedonia is a small country located in the in the Balkan peninsula in Southeast of Europe, which neighbors include: Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania and Greece. I know you have heard of these five extraordinary countries but now let`s continue with Macedonia. Macedonia was once a part of former Yugoslavia and that is why Macedonia is also known as FYROM or Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia. With the fall of Yugoslavia, Macedonia continued to exist as an independent country. Macedonia is a country full of various ethnicities including: Albanians, Turks, Serbs and many others. The capital city is Skopje which is also the largest.

                                   **Skopje**

Skopje is separated in half by the longest river in Macedonia, Vardar. The bridge that connects these two parts is called “Kamen Most” which basically means “Stone Bridge”. The bridge is one of the main symbols of Skopje. On one of the sides of Vardar you can see the Turkish Bazaar in which you can get familiar with the Turkish traditions and style of living. It is also one of the most popular touristic attractions here in Macedonia.

                   **Turkish Bazaar**

On the same side of Vardar you can visit the Fortress Kale. It was built on the highest point in the city overlooking the river Vardar. It was built in the 6th century AD but was later destroyed by a tremendous earthquake. The Fortress was rebuilt during the rule of emperor Justinian the First and constructed further during the 10th and 11th century. In the past it was used in many battles and wars because of its strategic and positioning advantage. But today it is a touristic sensation, and everybody can visit.

                      **Fortress Kale**

On the other side of Vardar you have the big Town Square “Ploshtad”. “Ploshtad” is known for the massive statue - fountain of Alexander The Great. Next to him we have got the statue of the famous Tzar Samuel. Ploshtad is a very famous tourist attraction because many people want to take photos with the statues. Also nearby u have a big mall if u want to relax, go shopping, grab something to eat, etc.

                     **Town Square “Ploshtad”**

If u wish to visit Skopje, you are most likely to climb the mountain Vodno which its highest point is 1066 meters named Krstovar. In 2002 on Krstovar peak the Millennium Cross was built. This cross is one of the biggest Christian crosses in the world with a height of 66 meters (217 ft).

                        **Vodno**

You can take 4 different paths to get to the top ranging from the easiest to the hardest one. If you get tiered there is a area on Middle Vodno where you can sit, relax, drink tea and then carry on with your climbing. If you are extremely tired and lazy you can use a Cableway. You get a ticket, get inside the cable car and enjoy the beautiful view of Skopje from above.

And finally we came to Canyon Matka. Canyon Matka is a canyon on the river Treska and covers 5000 hectares. It is a popular outdoor destination and it is a home of several monasteries including Sveti Andrea, Sveti Nikola, Sveti Spas and others. The most popular part of the canyon is the cave “Vrelo” . It is listed as one of the top 77 natural sites in the world. The exact depth of the cave is unknown, but many speculate that it is the deepest cave in the world. Other than that, the view is extraordinary.

                                  **Canyon Matka**

Hope you enjoyed this !!!
