WRONG CAREER CHOICE: My Story; an Experience.

in #story7 years ago (edited)

It's the desire of every Secondary School Leaver to choose a career that will fetch him/her money, respect and "swag".

In the year 2010, precisely 28/07/2010 when I graduate from high school; I had to make a decision that would change my life; a Career choice. Before then I had gotten so many advice from elderlies and it was a time of "Confusion".

As a young boy then, one of the advice I got (a wrong one) was to be an Economist or Accountant. This was the wrong career choice.

In the words of the "adviser", an elder; she said " YOU LOOK LIKE AN ACCOUNTANT AND ECONOMIST, WHY DON'T YOU STUDY ANY OF THESE?". Well, as God would have it, I filled these courses as my first and second choice in jamb 2010 (UNILAG and UNICAL), I wrote the jamb, scored 232/400, wrote the post UTME and did excellently well but Wasn't offered admission. So sad.

My One (1) year of waiting helped me made another career choice. It was a the right course but the wrong school. The next year, I applied to Mechanical Engineering in FUTO but still wasn't offer admission after doing well in my jamb, 224 and post UTME.

I applied for a pre-degree program that same year in Electrical engineering in FUTA while I applied for jamb in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in FUTA and UNIPORT respectively. After the Pre-degree program in FUTA I was offered admission in TMT ( Transport Management Technology) instead of Electrical Engineering. But God had His plan. I was finally offered admission in my Dream course, my passion, in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING by the University of Port Harcourt, September 2012.

You know what, this Admission was like a Birthday gift, because the Supplementary list came out on my birthday 28/09/2012, I was the fifth (5th) candidates out of 8 in the list. I list expected the admission because it was a second choice.

Five (5) years after, 2017; I have graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with B. Eng.

Glory to God.

LESSONS

  1. Always ask God for directions.
  2. Follow your passion.
  3. Don't be misled my "adviser", who advise you based on how you look.
  4. Be patient.
  5. Never give up.
  6. Let you decisions be about yourself not just to please others.
  7. Believe in God.

Nice one my Engineer sir.

I just found out you're in Steemit. I'm a fan since reading your book The Game. More Star writer here, means more potential for the platform.
