"Same, Yet Different"

Intro:
His eyes shone as he spoke. Her cheeks blushed pink. After an awkward silence, Jeff cleared his throat. Their eyes met.

They sat face to face in 'Addiction', their favorite coffee shop. Usually, the place exuded contagious emotion. He felt different today. The two did not want to grab their comforting cup of cappuccino.

"I'll talk to him, Emily, you can not postpone this anymore!" Meg spoke, opening her arms like the wings of an eagle.

Emily sat silently drawing invisible circles on the table. "He will never know that I'm impersonating another person," he spoke with infinite confidence. Laughing at her twin's stone expression, "Remember, identical twins do not need Emily mirrors, except our parents, only a handful of people can distinguish between us, it will take other years to match our faces with our names!"

An identical twin sister is more than just a sister. She is almost a part of your body. Braided brown curls, perfectly white skin, almost the color of natural yogurt, sea green eyes and smiles with dimples; that's all they had in common, really! The world begged to differ, however. The fact that they were identical twins did not mean they could read the minds of others. Surely, there were many people who thought they did not need mirrors in their house.

Meg's argument seemed extremely logical. Jeff would probably be cheated. She had been trying to make him see her relationship with a pair of fresh eyes, but she was having a hard time seeing it. Emily had always been the one with a frozen heart, melting at the first rays of emotion. Jeff was his best friend. It hurt to see him hurt. But I had to firmly tell him that this was not working!

Meg, on the other hand, mastered the art of talking to people in an iron tone. Nobody messed with her. That's exactly why she was the perfect person to touch the cat.

"Send it by email and ask him to find it now, right here," Meg said, tapping the table with purpose. Nodding obediently, Emily obeyed. "Wait! Too full here," Meg said, extending her hand like a traffic cop. Scanning the crowded tables and the noisy chatter of people grouped as bunches of grapes, "the top floor of this cafe would be perfect! It has a nice and quiet room" he smiled confidently.

"Take care of yourself," Emily said, her eyes buried in the screen of her phone, moving her fingers like rabbits as she sent her a text message. She got up to leave. "I'm good with this sister!" Meg assured, hugging her loosely. Meg moved to the elevator. A soft, buttery smile appeared on his face. She sat on the emerald green cushion of the cane chair and typed her heart into her phone.

When I hold your hand
time flies like the wind in the sand
with you I feel that life is great
always looking you in the eyes, I could stand
If only I had a magic wand
until eternity we would stay, holding hands.

She had recently discovered that she was falling in love with Jeff. She ran into him so often because his twin and he spent a lot of time together. His brief exchange of words when he arrived at his house to meet Emily became long and interesting conversations. Instantly he felt a magnetic attraction towards him. But when he learned that he had proposed to Emily, he kept his emotions locked. She was disconsolate, but made sure she never let him see. She loved her twin sister more than anything in the world. Unexpectedly, life had given him a second chance.

Brilliant golden hair, defined cheekbones, blue sailor eyes with a deep throat voice, could sweep any woman off her feet. The scent of musk hung in the air. He was here. Meg turned to see him walk towards her. He raised his hand enthusiastically to say hello, feeling stupid immediately. Emily had sent him a text message with the exact location for the meeting.

A soft smile danced on their lips as they exchanged a quick hug. "I thought we would meet tomorrow, honey," he said, arriving at the point faster than he expected. Her heart was pounding as she wondered if he had already recognized her. Meg had played this game before. And she had always won. "I want to say something really important, it can not wait until tomorrow, Jeff," said the words that came out of his mouth like a car accelerating on a racetrack. Covering his palm with his, he frowned. Nodding, he urged her to continue. "I know I've been talking about ending our relationship," he said in a serious voice, holding his artistic fingers in his well-groomed hands. "I was wrong, nobody can keep you happier than I. I'm in love with you!" He sighed with relief when he finished.

His eyes shone as he spoke. Her cheeks blushed pink. After an awkward silence, Jeff cleared his throat. Their eyes met. Meg was annoyed to see an expression of dead bread on her face.

Releasing his hand from her gentle grip, he stood up. "Good try, Meg, I was always in love," he said, his eyes piercing her heart. "With Emily" he finished and turned his back to leave. The muffled sobs followed him. We look the same, and yet we are very different, Meg thought as she watched him move away energetically.

Love,

Barbara Jones."
