in #story4 years ago

There lived two lovers of Nairobi. They were inseparable. They so much loved each other that they were ready to die for each other, while Mado was ebony in complexion Egbeble was lighten in complexion and taller in height.
One day Egbeble decided to visit Mado’s family members, she agreed willing and they set- off for the journey that took seven hours. They finally arrived her village Luemba. Majority of houses are huts with Hatched roofs. Most of the villagers are palm wine tappers and farmers. In the middle of the village was a market in which all sort of things are being sold. They steared at the two lovers in an akward way.
After a moment of trekking they arrived at Mado’s compound filled with children that take fun in dancing round a pot on a burning fire. Soon some haragard looking old men and women started coming out of their hut to greet them.
“Who is this man with you?”
They inquired anxiously. “He is my husband to be.” Mado answered proudly. “Oh that is good” They checked at him.

Mado and Egbeble had their dinner together, took their bath together that evening , however Egbeble noticed some suspicious attitude of the villagers. While the children came peeping through holes of the hut to have a look of Egbeble, the men and women kept pestering him with greetings in their local languages.
At 9p.m. Egbeble went out his hut to Urinate, he over heading two voices talking about a goat.
“Remember you have been eaten our goats all other people’s goat”
The first voice said.
“Yes, I know. “ The second voice admitted.
“This goat must never pass us by,” The first voice insist.
“We need to concluded before taking action” The second voice said. “ Please conclude. On time, because we are looking patience” The second voice said.
“I will give you people feed back tomorrow.” The second voice assumed them.
So Egbeble tip toed into his hut and narrated everything he heard to Mado who smiled and laid her head back on the bed. Soon someone knocked at their door. It was Egbeble’s father. She was called out and they argued for a long time in a language James could not understand. Then Mado came inside with a sad face.
“Is there any problem?” Egbeble asked her.
“Nothing.” She replied and went back to sleep.
At around 3a.m Mado woke Egbeble
“What is that?”
“Do not worry I will tell you later. But we are leaving here now otherwise you find yourself in pot of soup.” She raised him up from his bed. The two lover sneaked out of the village and ran into the bush at that hour of the day. They ran far hours before getting the taxi that took them to the nearest town where they boarded a bus to Egbeble's home town.
Egbeble narrated their ordeal to his mother who latter became hostile to Mado.

“My son cannot marry a cannibal, “ she insisted.
Egbeble quarreled his family members over Egbeble issue for a long time. Finally Mado was chased out of their home. Having felt disappoint in both parts, she felt she has no place to run to, she decided to take her life by hanging herself in a nearby bush in Egbeble compound.
