In ancient Rome, a sacred fire lights on and on as the Roman's daily lives goes on. For us it seems that the fire is nothing but just a common fire, but for the Romans, it's more than just a torch in flames but a sacred light that guides their days.
Vesta, the virgin Goddess of homes, hearth and family symbolizes the flame itself. To secure the flame's light to keep on going, the Romans designates five women from their society and calls them as Vestal virgins. These Vestal virgin's job is to secure the flame and ensure that the flame of the torch will not go out.
One day, the flame died. Cause of the said incident, the chief conducted an investigation. With the results of the said inspection, one of the vestal virgins has been accused of being experienced in a sexual act. Cause of that, even without proof or trial, the said woman has been executed with a death sentence no matter what she says to proclaim her innocence.
The said woman is placed down a cell below the ground with limited food, water and clothing. After being placed in the said cell, the Romans placed a rock above the ground jail for the Romans to never see the accused woman again.
"What an interesting story doctor", a woman said to an old man with his magnifying glass.
"It is, history is really an interesting study"
"Would you write a book about her?"
"I still don't know, but it seems that there is a thing that misses the story out of these ancient scripts"
"What is it?"
"The said virgin's name"
The woman browses again to see the written articles and the scriptures. With her second look, she notices a lot missing in the story.
"You're right? What should we do with this then?"
"Investigate more, I think?", the old man said before walking back to the relics next to them. The relics are all old and the site with the said stones of history are crowded with archeologists with the crew of the said expedition.
There inside the site, they find the said torch in the story. The torch itself is 5 meters in diameter, black in color and has some combustable materials inside it.
They tried looking for more clues around but cannot find anything.
"Is this a dead end? For the name atleast?", the woman asks the doctor again, the woman with the doctor is a reporter from a private TV company that supports the doctors financials for his expeditions.
Somewhat the doctor gets irritated of this woman because of how she gets on the way of his job. The woman keeps asking questions at times where the doctor is thinking deeply in particular to his investigation.
"Melissa? Right?"
"Yes, Doctor Sprat, I've already been with you for three days now, my name is still..."
"I'm kind of a busy old man Melissa and I'm running out of time, you see, anytime, I could die out of my age and this job-- there is no other one right now that can complete this but me", the doctor explains to Melissa.
"I'm sorry, but I will not be talking from now then"
"Nope, don't do that, just work on your timing", Doctor Sprat said before moving into another room.
Brush, brush, brush, the old man brushes one of the tablets and blews some of the dusts away. An archeologists work is kind of tedious cause of all the digging and brushing required to do the job, but for a passionate old man like Doctor Sprat, the work is worth in exchange for the knowledge that he will for man kind.
"What is this?", the old man said after noticing something on the tablet. He quickly tooks one of his gadgets and places it on the top of the tablet. After a few moment, the equipment makes a sound, "kacha!"
"As expected!"
"What is it doctor?"
"I always knew something is wrong with that said story, this tablet tells another side of that story"
"What does that mean?"
"It means that my job here is almost done"
"..."
"This other piece is a testamony to what had really happend, it seems that there was a lover but there is nothing that took place"
"That means?"
"Yes, she is innocent"
The doctor shooks his head on what he learns, the said story was so tragic that it made him go into tears.
"What is it doctor? Are you okay?", Melissa asks.
"No, I'm fine, it's just that, I feel sorry for these two"
"I didn't know you have such low emotions doctor"
The doctor kept on reading and reading and knew the virgin's name. This story is only a part of the histories of the said torch. For such beliefs, people had been sentenced to barbaric sentences and trials that people of that finds to be just and fair.
