Whilst investigating the death of a local scout, a courageous scout called Jeff Sparrow uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, bendy map circulating throughout Wales. As soon as anyone uses the map, he or she has exactly 90 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look pickled. A marked person feels like a spiky badger to touch.
Jeff gets hold of the map, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a red dog balancing on a squidgy scout, an old newspaper headline about a fang accident, a hooded maggot ranting about toenails and a drinking well located in a chilly place.
When Jeff notices his eyelashes have badger-like properties, he realises that the curse of the bendy map is true and calls in his lover, a computer programmer called Zach Godfrey, to help.
Zach examines the map and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the red dog balancing on a squidgy scout particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Jeff and Zach pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded maggot. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
