John was a smart young boy. He had just got his first job. He was happy and looking forward to meeting a young, bright girl. He went out to socialize and sometimes met girls but they did not seem to be of his type. His parents were sweet and he hoped he would get a life partner and have a life like theirs.
One day, on his way to work, he saw a girl on the road and it seemed like her car had broken down. He stopped his car and walked towards her. He helped her and soon the car was ready. She asked about him and he said that he was an engineer in a company and was proceeding to his work. She said that she was fresh out of college.
They exchanged their numbers and one call led to another. He asked her out one day and she arrived with her friends for dinner. He was taken aback. He was not rich enough to afford food for all at the high-end restaurant. John was not a fool however and had done a background check on the girl and it seemed that she was just a gold digger as they call it.
He let them order their food and had fun talking to them although it was more of giggles and girly talk and he often felt left out. The girls just about ordered every item on the menu and the amount must have gone up. The cashier looked at John and motioned him to come. John told the girls that he wanted to go to the restroom and went quickly to the cash desk. The cashier happened to be John's dad's friend and he had seen how the girls were trying to cheat John. He told John to place his wallet there and then tell the ladies that his purse had been stolen.
John went back and told the ladies just that. They were shocked and looked at each other. John said that he did not have a single coin in his hand and that they would have to pool together to pay for the dinner. The girls started scowling at him but could not dare make a scene as it was a high-end restaurant. They put their money on the table and it was more than enough to pay for the dinner. The girls looked at John as if they could yell at him. John looked sad and his friend who was playing nice till now was really angry and told him that she would never talk to him again. They paid and left without a goodbye.
John's dad's friend handed over his wallet and told him that he need not worry about finding a good girl as many in the town were far better than these. The ones who volunteer for city work are always around. He dropped a hint.
John learned a lesson that day. He also saved money because of the timely help.
