Mox entered into his room in a hurry. He placed the rolled painting in the holder he prepared beforehand and took his bags.
Before his take off, he left the portrait, that he spent the last days painting, in the middle of the room with a letter in a corner. A letter where he apologized for leaving early and that he will take the painting he stole as a payment. Then he closed the door and left.
In the barn, Rosa welcomed him with a small neigh, followed by another one when she saw the saddle in his hands. She didn’t like this place, or the other horses, so she was happy that they will leave. Mox placed the saddle on Rosa’s back and headed toward the prairie.
“Mister Mox, are you leaving?” one of the guards asked him. Mox was a very charismatic guy and be became friendly with all the people in the mansion.
“Yes, I am. Urgent business. Can’t wait anymore. I left a letter for Miss Anny in my room” Mox replied and galloped into the night.
The moon was still high, lighting up the whole prairie in front of him.
Mox hit gently Rosa’s back, urging her to go full speed. They had to cover a lot of distance. Their destination was a small ravine, not known by anybody in the area, that was Mox’s hidden base. Here he built a small shack and deposited valuables or gold that he stole as the Black Fox. He discovered this ravine a few months ago, when he was hunting quails. He fell down, almost broken his arm in the process. In the end, everything went for the best. He needed a hidden refuge and he didn’t break anything.
Nobody knew about it. Not even his friends. Not that he didn’t trust them, but what they didn’t know, they couldn’t tell. Mox learned when he was little that it’s better to keep some secrets from your friends. You don’t know when they might betray you. That was something that the Moxley family learned the hard way. The Neyhart's were their friends. And they stabbed them in the back at the first chance.
Mox tied Rosa by a tree and entered the small shack. Small sacks of golden coins, other paintings and art were stacked one over the other inside. Carefully, he placed the painting on the table, the only one in the room, and then changed his clothes.
The Black Fox costume, if we can call it like this, it was black leather pants, a black shirt and a leather vest, with a small chainmail shirt underneath, for stopping knives and hopefully bullets. A black bandana, that will cover later his face, was placed around the neck.
After he equipped himself, Mox put on his head a black hat as well and left the shack.
“Rosa, I will leave you here tonight. I promise you I will be coming as soon as possible. You have water and grass here, so help yourself when you need,” He said taking Rosa head in his hands.
But she didn’t seem to care about him anymore. After he turned his back, she started to roll over the ground, enjoying the moment after a hard run through the night.
It was the crack of dawn. Mox had ahead of him a few good hours of walking. He hoped that he would have a few hours of sleep before attacking the train.
