The Blood?
Miss McKay had a chemical mixture she’d carried with her since the last time she came across a similar Bloodied scene in the downtown streets of Satchmo. It was outside a lab where they found the grey matter. There were signs of what appeared to be a large pool of Blood that had been cleared which she picked up in a similar fashion as Agent 197 had today. Upon spraying it with the chemical mixture it indeed showed that blood was involved.
Now, she faces a similar scene.
As they made their way out of the pipe Miss McKay saw Agent 197 still shining away with his UV light. He noticed them making their way out and quickly hustled towards them.
“Miss McKay, here are what seem to be bone fragments” said the agent as he handed her a small sealed bag.
“Thank you agent” Miss McKay said as she carefully studied the contents. Without stating a word about her observations she placed the bag in a temperature controlled container they’d always carry along to any potential crime scenes.
The light was busy fading quickly as night started setting in.
“Please show me what you’ve found” Miss McKay asked Agent 197. He noticed a hint of concern in her voice and the slightest in the expression on her face.
“Certainly Ma’am”
It was merely a few paces from where they’d emerged that Agent 197 started.
“If we follow the trail it seems as though someone or something had been impacted with a tremendous force… round about here” Agent 197 stated as he shone his UV light towards the ground. All three of them were carefully treading the grass and soil, attempting not to disrupt any potential evidence.
Agent 197 continued “The blood splatter pattern… uhm, excuse me Miss McKay, I’ll be referring to it as such until we can..”
“That’s alright Agent 197, please proceed” Miss McKay interrupted.
“Yes Ma’am, very well. As we can see from the size and spread of the blood drops it is fine and widespread here. Similar to a gunshot that initially creates a mist of blood in its wake” Agent 197 was explaining as he walked a few paces ahead. “Here we see larger drops of blood being left. Then it is smeared along the ground in areas.”
“Similar to a vehicle hitting a pedestrian” stated Agent 186 “whereby the body will be rolling and bouncing.”
“Yes, that’s correct 186, but there are two pieces that don’t make sense” the agent stated. Miss McKay intervened “One, the initial spray of blood and two… why it shows under the UV lights.”
“Yes, that’s it” Agent 197 said as they came to a stop where there appeared to have been a pool of blood.
At the same time they all looked back to where they started.
“That must be at least 30 paces” Agent 186 said.
Miss McKay pulled the small chemical mixture from her bag and sprayed it on a small area where they saw the pool of supposed blood light up. “Switch the light off” she asked the agent and as he did the small area she’d sprayed was visible.
“What is it?” Agent 197 asked, his face clearly showing the confusion.
“I need to get back to the SPI right away” Miss McKay stated. “This is not the first time I’ve seen this.”
“You’ve seen this before?” Agent 186 asked.
“Yes.” Miss McKay said as she started hurrying back towards their vehicle, the two agents in tow.
“There are a few more things I want you to collect and then you need to stay here to ensure the scene remains secure.”
“Yes Ma’am” the agents said in song.
“As soon as we pick up signal you call the SPI and get a forensics team down here.”
“What is going on Miss McKay?” Agent 186 asked.
“I’m not a 100% sure yet but I have a feeling we’re not going to like it” Miss McKay replied.
She didn’t mention the thoughts that had crossed her mind. The video footage she’d seen of deformed men and woman that were rubbished as being fake. The stories of an old laboratory that was shut down due to illegal human experiments. The whispers on the streets about people with super human abilities.
She couldn’t. These were all but stories and in their world, you need facts backed up with physical evidence. The closest she had was the sample she delivered to their biologists which showed some matter bonding to human DNA.
Those tests were still inconclusive since they've never seen anything like that before and the sample provided was too small to do further extensive testing.
Miss McKay, however, now had secondary evidence, far from the tiny sample she retrieved from the lab. She had bone fragments retrieved from the scene and she knew it would contain the same matter it did before.
Now, she wanted answers.
