THE PRINCE OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN COWS

There was, once, a prince rich as the sea, and even more generous than rich. He was called the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, because he really had seven golden cows in his coat of arms, painted on the great door of his castle.

Every day, the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows gave large alms after leaving mass. Every day he invited a hundred friends to dinner, who returned loaded with presents. Also, the poor and the guests said to him everywhere and always:

“Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, you are one and only. For you, we would go through water and fire."

"Thank you, my friends."

One evening when the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows was alone in his room, he saw a young man come in who was crying.

“My friend, what are you asking? Tell me why you're crying."

"Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, I ask you a great favor, and I have every reason to cry. When I was seven years old, I lost my father and my mother. But I did not lack alms until I was old enough to earn my living. I had made myself a mistress, beautiful as day, and wise as a saint. We were going to get married, but my mistress died this morning. Now I'm done talking to the girls. If I knew Latin, to understand what is written in the missal, I would become a monk. Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, you are rich and a chaplain. Give me ten pistoles, to mourn my mistress, and to have masses celebrated for her.

"My friend, you will not have ten pistoles. Here are a hundred pistoles. Take it or leave it."

"Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, may the Good Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary reward you for your charity."

The young man left with his hundred pistoles. Three days later he returned dressed in mourning.

“Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, you have done me a lot of good. If you want, I will serve you all my life. But I don't want any wages. Take it or leave it."

"My friend, I take you into my service. You will have no wages. You will be called the Black Valet, and you will have great power over all the other servants of the castle."

At the end of a month, the Black Valet knew his master's affairs better than anyone, and he came to tell him in great secret:

“Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, you give and spend beyond your means. Another year of this life, and I see you on the brink."

"Black Valet, you don't know what you're saying. I have no wife or children. If by chance I were broke, my friends would not let me lack anything."

"Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, don’t be fooled."

The next day, during dinner, the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows said to his guests:

“Are you my friends?”

"Yes, Prince of the Seven Golden Cows. For you, we would go through water and fire."

“Well, the Black Valet told me to be wary of you."

"The Black Valet is a scoundrel. He robs you night and day. Chase him away."

The Prince of the Seven Golden Cows therefore chased away, like a thief, the Black Valet, who had actually stolen enough gold and silver from him, to buy a beautiful mill on the river Gers, and a castle, with a wood and seven farms.

A year later, the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows received a visit from the bailiffs and the catchpoles. He called all his friends.

“My friends, you tell me every day: “Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, your equal is to be born. For you, we would go through water and fire." Well, I have nothing left. I'm broke. The bailiffs and catchpoles are kicking me out of my house. Help me according to your means."

“Ah, glorious! You ruined yourself by giving alms. Tell the poor to help you."

The Prince of the Seven Golden Cows left, insulted by his former friends.

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

People that only receive from you and never give you anything are not really your friends. And most often, they will betray you when you are in need.

Only the Black Valet is the friend of the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows, even though it seems that he has stolen from him.

Today, Kati, her mother, her daughter, and her two granddaughters went to visit the Cathedral of Pécs.

This cathedral has four bell towers. it is possible to climb one of these towers, but I don't think they are doing this today.

Not far from the cathedral, there is a big mosque that has been converted into a catholic church.

The building was built during the Turkish occupation of Hungary. After the Turks left Hungary, it has been converted to a catholic church.

Inside, you can still see the architecture of a mosque, but the decoration is definitely catholic.

This particular tale is full of lessons to be learned. The Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows was not prudent enough with his bountiful resources. He did a good thing by helping the poor but he was unwise in the management of his resources. And at the end he paid a stiff price for it. It appears the only true friend he had was the Black Valet though the Black Valet was dishonest and stole from his lord, but he nonetheless told him the truth. I believe it is not yet too late for the Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows to learn from his mistake. He can still improve his finances and live more prudently than before.

Thank you for this interesting tale, @vcelier.

The church in the picture, I mean the cathedral is quite a magnificent piece of architecture. Looks like something that was built years and years ago. This is the first time I'm hearing of a mosque being converted to a church. Both buildings look good in the shots you took of them, especially the first one.

Take care and God bless.

What was the name of this mosque? Can You please mention? Because I saw many mosques have resemblance in their buildings with one another.
If we talk about the story, You are saying right.
I also believe same. Those peoples who just take a benefit from you and do nothing for you, actually they are not able to be your friend.
I think a man should tell secrets to the God only because according to my experience if you cannot safeguard your own secrets, how could you expect from others that they will not told to others.
Now it seems that he has stolen but As You have mentioned that it just seems, what will be the actual story.
Waiting.

The name was "Mosque of Pasha Qasim".

Thank u so much.

This is indeed a tough story. We are actually living in a wicked world. Could you imagine what happened to The Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows in this story. The Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows was a very kind and generous man, he always gave alms to the poor and every day he invited a hundred friends to dine with him and also gave each of them gifts when they were living. This made people like him very much.

There was this particular day when The Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows received a visit from the bailiffs and the catchpoles, so he was in need and went to beg for assistance from all his friends who were dining with him, but no one agreed to assist him, instead, they were even raining insults on him. What a wicked world, The people he actually called his friends disappointed him just the one time he needed them mostly. Well, we will get to know what later happened to The Prince Of The Seven Golden Cows in the next story.

The Cathedral of Pécs is very big and looks so beautiful. The architect who designed the building did a very wonderful work.
I am really shocked to hear that a mosque can be converted to a Catholic Church. That's indeed great, I just got an idea of something I had never known before.
All thanks to you Sir @vcelier for the knowledge.

There are mosques converted to catholic churches, and there are Christian churches converted to mosques. One example is Hagia Sophia in Istambul.

Yeah you are right. Every relation stays forever when equally balanced by both parties. True friends no matters what they are always be by your side in your good or even at worst time. But fake one never remain same they say good bye early.
But In this tale I'm not understanding what's the main target the main point?? I'm waiting for the next part so it becomes clear to me . But according to my thinking we should keep our secrets to just our own self because no one is our friend if we are not our own friend.

Great work. In books I read that Turkish architects have great influence and art. They just do fantastic job and here in this church it's clear it's amazing

It is true that true friendships are based on balance and reciprocity.
It is important to surround yourself with people who are also willing to give and support when needed.
However, we must also remember that people are imperfect and can make mistakes.
Perhaps there is a reason behind the Black Valet's apparent betrayal of the Prince.
Open and honest communication can help resolve any misunderstandings and strengthen the friendship.
Let's see how the story continues to unfold.

Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing.

People's arrogance can only lead them astray. He felt very flattered by his friends, but in the end he received no help from any of them. The cruelest thing is when they tell him to ask the poor for help, I think it was an insult.
He received advice from someone who served him, but the prince himself was the cause of his downfall.

It is a very beautiful cathedral, and the flower garden gives it a very particular character.

Here comes another interesting one. These is a typical example of what we go through in real life, people only associate with you because of what they will benefit, but once they don't see you with anything they leave you. Tell me, how can the ones from behind be good and kind again

The Prince of the Seven Golden Cows was a victim of such people. I just feel for him. He will now realize that the black valet was telling him the truth after all. Even though the black valet wasn't all that perfect but I can tell he is a good man. I just wonder what the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows will do now that his friends has left him broke.

I was just about to say the cathedral looks beautiful from the outside until I saw the inside view. The entire settings is beautiful.

Today's story is very sad as we see that this king who has a gold coin is very soft hearted and in this way we see that he is very kind to his people. behaves better but still one day when he is sitting alone he is crying remembering his parents and after a few days his wife also leaves him from this world so then Adding to the problems for him is the fact that whenever someone leaves this world, only his memories are left behind.

Then after that, when a person is alone, he needs a person, so he also did the same thing that he made a special person from among the people living here and told him that now you take all these responsibilities.

But the way it is said that trust is not connected at all and the people who are there are completely changed when they are trusted, just like the way this man took gold and silver from the king's house. They have stolen, now see when the king will find out about this.

It is good that you all are going to such beautiful places, one is very happy to visit such a place and see the old buildings and read their history.

This is another interesting story!!. The prince of the seven golden cows was a good man by helping the poor which is a good thing to do.

But he was so generous to the point of giving excess of his wealth to people but as human, they took this as an advantage.

The black valet intentionally went back to the Prince of Prince of the seven golden cows because he knew he would be able to steal from him.
For the black valet,he was trying to let the prince know the kind of friends he has and what they would do if he became poor even though the black valet was also up to something.

I would say,the prince of the seven golden cows became poor because he does more than enough for people which made him loose all he had
Let’s hope and see if things will really change back to good for him.

There is something I have learnt about helping people and giving alms. Firstly, some people may think that they have a lot of money so no matter how well they spend, they won't go broke but that's a wrong instance. Any amount of money can finish in the world.

Just take a look at the prince of the seven golden cows. He has a good heart. There is no doubt that he's so kind and he does not want people to suffer so that was why he gave alms and also invited people for dinner but he forgot to spend wisely. He was making people happy and rich at the detriment of his net worth.

I would not say we should not help people but too much of everything is bad. There must be a limit to everything. Calculate and think if you will get affected by the money you're giving out or not. Don't just spend lavishly and don't take anyone in anyhow just like the young man who was taken in by the prince because he lost his wife but he already stole the prince's gold.

That's bad!
Nice story!

The prince of the seven cow. The title itself is full of suspense and immediately I come across this story, I knew it will really be an interesting story to actually read and check out actually. I was imagining how rich the Prince must have actually been so rich. I guess he must be rich like king Solomon.

I think one thing that I learnt in the story which I also see that the prince practice is the fact that he actually give alms. That is he gives to the poor. I am sure this must have contributed to his growth in wealth and also not only that but also to been acceptable by many people over there. Well it is actually bound to happen like that. When one give generously out, he will continue to get blessed and blessed more and more.

Not only that one thing I learn from the rich prince is the fact that even though he was rich, he still gives out to people. He is never stingy as some people might have be. He was never self centered as some people must have also been. That is to show how kind heart he has and which I believe everyone of us should also have. There is a lot to learn from him and I am actually looking forward for the next chapter. This is really an interesting story I must confess

This is just the way of the world, it shows that his friends are fair weather friends only when the going is good. But true friends stick through thick and thin, it's unfortunate that the prince of the seven golden cows could not see beyond his friends' facade.
The black valet at least was honest with him when he told him that he was on the brink of bankruptcy.
The Catholic Church cathedral is so beautiful and one thing I love about them is their sacred decorations.

This is quite an interesting story and we find out how in the poignant unraveling of the Prince of the Seven Golden Cows' once opulent and benevolent life, his inexhaustible generosity, exploited by the treacherous Black Valet, leads to financial ruin and abandonment by erstwhile devoted friends, exposing the ephemeral nature of loyalty and the tragic consequences of misplaced trust. Like in life when you are on high horses everybody gets around it and when you go on the downfall, there are no friends in sight.

Sometimes when a man has so much to throw around, he forgets that wealth can fizzle out if not properly managed. He spent so much without checking his records and now he's bankrupt.
The Black valet tried to call his attention to his financial misappropriations, but he paid deaf ears to it and I guess the black valet took advantage of the situation to enrich himself.
His friends are worthless and they must be laughing behind his back at what has befallen The Prince of the seven golden cows.
The cathedral is indeed beautiful, it has a certain sacred aura around it. The mosque still looks like a mosque from the outer view but the inside is just as it should be, a church.

I love this story, it has a lot to learn, though the price was rich, he was not wise enough to handle the resources provided to him by the ALMIGHTY GOD. He should have learned it from someone old before becoming the king. The good thing is that he is helping the poor and I am sure this thing is going to help him in the life to come and also in his afterlife.

Betrayal is on every step, he thought Black Valet is his true and honest friend, but in reality, he wasn't he betrayed him, no a days, it is very hard to believe anyone.

Now he knows all the situation and hopefully, he will choose people carefully. thanks for sharing these wonderful stories with us @vcelier

Wow, these church buildings are beautiful and cool looking.
