THE TWO TWINS

The two brothers separated and went, one towards the rising sun, the other towards the setting sun. For three days and three nights, the eldest walked in a large wood, seeing and hearing nothing except the birds of the sky and the wild beasts. Finally, he came to a city where all the people were mourning and weeping.

“People of the city, why are you in mourning? Why are you crying like this?"

"Stranger, we certainly have every reason to be in mourning and to cry. There is, in the neighboring wood, a Great Beast with seven heads, which takes from us every year the most beautiful of our young daughters. Just yesterday, she told us that she would come and eat us all if we didn't bring her one. By force, we had to obey. This morning, we went to lead a young lady into the woods, as beautiful as the day.

"People of the city, leave mourning and cry no more. I will go into the woods, and if it pleases God, I will kill the Great Beast with seven heads, and I will deliver the damsel."

"God help you, brave young man, and keep you from misfortune."

The eldest twin whistled his dog, took his sword, and set off for the woods at full gallop on his horse. After three hours of running, he found, tied to the foot of a tree, the young lady as beautiful as the day.

“Sir, what did you come to do here? Go back quickly. I hear the cries of the Great Beast with seven heads. You can still run away, while it eats me."

"Young lady, I did not come to escape. I want to kill the Great Beast with seven heads and marry you today. Go! my dog. Earn your oats, my good horse."

For three clock hours, the eldest twin fought the Great Beast with seven heads, and finally pierced it right through. Then he tore out the seven tongues which he put in his handkerchief. Then, with a stroke of his sword, he cut the ropes that bound the young lady and brought her back to the city.

“Brave people, I have killed the Great Beast with seven heads. Now I need this lady for a wife."

"Yes, yes, brave young man. Marry her. You earned it."

The eldest twin immediately took the young lady to the church and married her. The wedding lasted until midnight. At the first bell, everyone went to bed. The next day, at daybreak, the husband woke his wife.

“Woman, get dressed. Let's go for a walk in the countryside."

The lady dressed and followed her husband into the countryside.

“Woman, what is this little house over there? I want to buy it, to rest there when I go hunting."

"Be careful, my good friend. It is a poorly inhabited house. If you went there, something bad would happen to you."

The eldest twin did not respond, but he brought his wife back to the town and came alone to knock at the door of the cottage.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"What are you asking?"

"Open, or I'll break down the door."

"The door is of solid oak and iron, with good locks and strong bolts. You won't break it. If you want to come in, pull a hair from your head and pass it through the cat flap."

The older twin pulled a hair from his head and passed it through the cat flap. Immediately, the earth swallowed him up.

Part 3

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

Here we have the story of the eldest of the two twins, from his separation from his brother to his disappearance underground.

Which brother is the eldest of the two tins? The firstborn, or the second?

Depending on where you ask the question, the answer may be different. In most countries, the eldest is the firstborn.
But, apparently, in some parts of Africa, the secondborn is considered the eldest, as the firstborn has "prepared the way" for his brother.

My brother Antoine and his wife Marie-Hélène bought their house in 1985. The house has been built exactly 100 years ago, in 1913.
They are only the second owners in a century, which is very unusual, as it seems that the average duration of owning a house in France is 7 years.

They made extensive renovations to this house.

The previous owners (1923 to 1985) were a family with six boys and one daughter named "Marcelle". This is the reason they nicknamed their house "Villa Marcelle".

In fact, there are two houses. The second house is not as big as the first one. The mother of Marie-Hélène lives there.

In this picture, you can see the two houses viewed from the garden.

And in the back of the garden, there is also another small building that is used mostly for furniture storage.

Tonight, I am going to have dinner with my brother Grégoire, who is a priest in Paris.

This story sure is good, and I wasn't far off from the reality of the story when I thought it would be two different stories being two brothers following a different path. The battle lasted a long time because fighting for three hours must be something that can leave you tired. I think I was shocked when I read the last part when it says that the earth swallowed him up.

Now we can only wait to see how the story continues, or if the next chapter will be the story of the other brother.

I can see that it is a very beautiful house, and also a very cozy home, I think that autumn suits that house very well.
I hope you enjoy your stay.

It is such an interesting story, I am really enjoying reading it. It is weird to me that in Africa, the secondborn is called elder, but here in my country the firstborn twin is called elder.

The story is shaping very well, everything is going well. One brother is travelling and sees people pouring in and crying, as the boy is kind-hearted, he listens to the problems of the people and thinks to help them.

they warned him as it is very difficult to kill the seven-headed beasts, but when you aim for something and you try to work har, you can achieve it. He killed the beast and escaped the beautiful girl, now he wants to marry her.

The people got agreed, because he helped them get rid of that beast. Now the girl has become his wife and when he asked her about the house, the girl warned him about it. But he didn't listen to her and now he want to buy that house, he went alone there, i am sure he will fell into some kind of problem due to this.

The house your brother has purchased is beautiful, it really difficult to believe that, for century, they are the second family living in that house. Nice renovation. How many days are you planning to stay in pairs?

Have a good dinner <3

Hmmmmmm! This has taken me back to yesterday's episode. I sensed that the big fish that transformed in to this twins had the desire to travel the world and even help people but he was limited because he was a fish. And at some point, the fish was also afraid to die because when the man caught him, he pleaded for the man not to eat him or probably because he knew his meat will be useless to the man but when he learnt that the man's wife wanted to him, he did not hesitated.

That was an opportunity for him to transform from fish to human which he did. Today's episode is enjoyable too. The eldest twin found a wife already 🤭 it's a good thing he is out doing good and helping people, I hope the younger one on his end will also do the same thing. And I hope that the eldest twin will be able to survive in the belly of the earth. I am so much enjoying this tale☺️

The house looks beautiful, the back garden is amazing with a touch of green. Oh wow! Your brother is a priest? That's amazing. I learnt it's a blessing to have priests in our families. I hope you will have an amazing dinner with him.

The story is interesting, just that this chapter doesn't end on the happy note. The twins have separated as each goes on their own way. One of the twins goes towards to setting of the sun while the other goes towards the rising of the sun. The eldest of the twins who could have been said as I meaningful life was swallow by the earth due to overconfidence. His wife has told him not to dear the cottage but he went back when his wife wasn't around.

He could have continued enjoying his conjugal bliss with his wife as he suffers before he could marry the lady. He fought with a beast with seven head and deliver a village from anguish of the beast.

I'm waiting to see what will happen to the eldest twin in the next chapter whether he is going survive in the end.

The house your brother and his wife bought as I long history. Seeing that the house had only beget two owner over the last century means that there would be something unique about the building. Your brother did well for allowing his mother-in-law stays in one of the houses. The house pattern is superb I must say having different segments.

I'm sure you are enjoying the company of your family members. Don't forget to extend our regards to the priest you intend to dime with later in the day.

In the part of Africa where I stay, the first to come out of the womb is regarded as the elder but there are other tradition, like the Yoruba tribe that believe that the first to come out from the womb goes first to prepare the way and check out the world before the other one is delivered and the second to be delivered is regarded as the elder

Today's episode of the story is interesting. From the eldest son killing the beast with seven heads to marry the most beautiful lady in the city, and then falling into danger again.

From the way the eldest son is described in the story, I see as very brave and courageous. It takes only courage and bravery to come into a land and fight a powerful beast for upto three and then defeating it. He might have acted carelessly in the part where he tried breaking into the small hot, Although his wife warned him. I hope he makes it out if the place unhurt.

Your brother Antoine has a beautiful house. It has lasted long but doesn't look old in any way. I hope you're having a good time over there. Do enjoy your stay sir

That's great. You are enjoying with your family. Time spend with family never wasted.
This is the Only relation which is much more honest and pure.
We forget about all bad phases of life, just in the company of friends and family members.
If we talk about the story, two brothers went on their way separately and elder twin saved the girl from beast and also married her.
But how he could married with young girl so immediately without knowing about her.
But all these stories are based upon fantasy world. Where You can imagine that how birds can speak and how they fight with beast like creatures.
Sometimes reading such stories take away from all discomforts of life and we enjoyed alot by reading them.
Characters are also not clever like a man in this real world.
Now let's see, what will be the twist in this story. What misfortune they have to be faced.
Waiting for the next.

The elder twin really summoned up great courage, that was a selfless act. When he hit the road searching for the large beast, I thought something bad was going to happen to him but fortunately, he scaled through and came out victorious which earned him a wife in return.

In reality, this just explains that for every action and decision we make, there is always a reward: it may be good or bad. This is why we should strive to be good in everything we do while hoping for the best.

I wonder what he might have encountered after being swallowed up by the ground.

I hope he doesn't meet his worst nightmare there.

Great episode ✨

How beautiful it will be for the twins brothers not to have separated. They might have really achieve a lot of things together. The town must really have been suffering from a devastating thing beyond which they actually mentioned that might have cause them to have been mourning.

But why will a beast terrible and wicked like that actually exist. Why will he yearly pick their daughters most especially the beautiful one and in fact threatening them. The twin brother must certainly have been so much bold in himself that he voluntarily himself to kill the beast. He is definitely a brave young man truly. Only few people can do that.

The great beast must have been so much tough that they were fighting for close to 3 hours non step. Well I love the story ended in this chapter that the twin brother eventually killed the beast and not the other way round.

This is a nice story and I'd love to know what the other twin brother is doing from his end. I love the fact that they are brave and strong.

I love how he delivered the most beautiful girl from being eaten by the great beast and he had to marry her. Truly, he deserved to marry her since he delivered from from being killed or eaten and I'm glad that she was able to return his gesture by saying yes to him. I just hope the his other twin brother is fine and we hear from him very soon.

I have also noticed something about brave people. When you tell them that something is scary, they will face it to know if it is truly scary. Whrn the lady told the young man not to enter the building, he came back to come check what is in the building.

I just hope nothing bad happens to him

It's just like the way inflation is today it's costing more to build and renovate a house and it's good that you're visiting your brother, it adds to the love.

Now coming to the story as we read yesterday that there will be two twin brothers and everything is happening exactly as the fish told and now these two brothers are grown up and to roam around. The two brothers go on separate journeys.

A brother has gone out and does not feel any of the things above the sky and When the second brother goes, people see him crying and it is a fact that when anyone cries in front of us, there is trouble, but here the whole city was crying. And then as we have seen he has killed this man and now he has told the villagers to marry this beautiful girl to me and all of them have happily agreed and now it is back.

He has grown up in his village and when the girl wakes up in the morning, they talk to each other and go for a walk. The girl says who does this small house belong to. I want to buy it.

The story becomes very interesting now what will happen if she listens to this guy or will buy this house and open the door.

Wow, the story is getting even more and more interesting. In my country, the eldest child is the firstborn.
Back to the story, the eldest twin was strong and brave in defeating the Great Beast with seven heads, and he brought back joy and happiness to the community. But along the line, his greediness and pride were what killed him. Only if he had listened to what his wife had told him, he would still be alive.
So, what I learnt from this story is that we should not be greedy and have much pride. It's good to listen to instructions.

This is tragic, all the bravery gone in a moment. But he should have listened to his wife, foolhardiness is not a good trait

I don't know if I'm to call this foolishness, why would he go about looking for danger? One can't be lucky all the time. He paid the supreme price for his foolishness

The eldest twin made a very grievous mistake which cost him his life. He became too confident of his bravery that he was looking for trouble everywhere. And he just ended like that.
