THE GIANT GOULAFFRE
The castle of Goulaffre.
"Stand against the door", said Fistilou to Allanic, "I will climb on your shoulders and in this way, I will reach the hammer."
They did so. The door opened immediately and they entered a garden where they saw two beautiful young ladies walking. They were the daughters of the giant Goulaffre, who lived in this castle. Allanic began to play his straw torch; Fistilou dancing and frolicking, and the two young ladies came running to watch them. They never left their garden, so they had never seen anything like it, and they were very amused by the music of one and the frolics and cries of the other. Their mother, a giantess ten feet tall, also arrived, and they urged her to keep these two men in the castle, to amuse them, since they never went out.
"But your father, my children, you don’t think about it?"
"They are so amusing and so nice that our father will be amused by them as we are, and will let them live."
"I'm not really sure; but let them stay, all the same, since they amuse you."
And here are the two young giantesses very happy. When supper time came, a bell rang, and the giant arrived. They had hidden our two friends in a large chest; but the giant, upon entering the dining room, immediately exclaimed:
"I smell Christian, and I want to eat them!"
“I would like to see that, for example,” replied his wife, "Eat my two nephews who came to see me, two boys who are so charming and amuse our daughters so much, with their talents, and will amuse you yourself!"
"Bring your nephews so that I can see them, my wife."
Our two companions were taken out of the chest, trembling and dying of fright.
"They are very small, your nephews, my wife! And what do they know to do?
"Dancing and making wonderful music."
"It's good; let's have supper first because I'm starving, then we'll see."
And they sat down at the table. A soup was first served in a broken barrel. Then a roasted Christian was brought on a plate.
The giant Goulaffre cut it up and kept most of it for himself, and then the giantess shared what remained between herself and her two daughters. She also gave a foot to each of the two strangers.

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.
I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.
So, the Giant Goulaffre is not a kind giant like the Giant Hok-Bras. He is an ogre.
How are our two boys, Allanic and Fistilou, getting alive from the castle of Goulaffre?
When we were going to my house in Harrison Hot Springs last week, we stopped to get supplies in a small grocery store in Agassiz.
There, we bought some dark chocolate that contains no milk and is then vegan.
From what you can read, the cocoa beans were grown in Ghana in West Africa, moved to New Zealand on the opposite side of the earth, then the chocolate was sent to Canada across the Pacific Ocean. This is a very long travel.
And the chocolate is good but very hard. I don't think we will buy it again.

It is interesting to know that the Giant Goulaffre isn't always as pleasant as the Giant Hok-Bras.
In truth, it's far an ogre and they're normally characterised as evil and terrifying creatures.
Unlike the pleasant giants that have appeared in preceding tales, ogres are typically extra risky and can motive trouble.
But on this story there are positive to be exciting adventures and courageous characters who will face the ogre.
What a journey that chocolate had!
Sometimes products travel a long way to get to us. It's too bad it's too hard, maybe you can try other brands of vegan chocolate that are softer.
I hope you find one you like better!

Oh my God 😯, GOULAFFRE first statement is "I smell Christians", why referring to them as Christians 😭, why not, i smell humans or man meat since he is a human eating giant.
Thank God the wife of Goulaffre found a way to deceive her husband and a way to preserve their life. I wish their talent saves them at the end, I hope the giant get to love their dance and music, let's just wait and see what happens after the supper.
A cocoa beans grown in Ghana West Africa, moved to New Zealand then sent to Canada is truly a chocolate worth tasting, i don't mind if it's strong of not🤣🤣.
I just had dinner and now I want to eat some sweet dish, I think the chocolate you have shared must be tasty and yummy. Can you gift them to me? :D
how a human can eat a giant? it looks awkward to me. and I am shocked to know the statement from the
GOULAFFRE which was that he smells Christian.
Human eating Giants, not just humans but Christians, he must be an evil monster. Now Allanic and Fistilou are caught up in all of these and even made to eat humans as well. Hmmm. I wonder how they felt, eating the foot of a human and what would be their fate in that castle?
The chocolate is very well packaged though 😊
Allanic and Fistilou have gotten themselves into some real trouble. They are trapped inside the castle of a cannibalistic giant, the Giant Goulaffre. Sooner or later they might be eaten. But I believe if they are really Christians, the good Lord might come to their rescue. I hope this actually happens to them and also that the human eating giant pays for his wickedness.
Thanks for sharing.
It's good you are sticking to a vegan diet, that's very healthy. When I saw the name Ghana on the sachet I guessed it must have been made there. I had no idea Ghana cultivated cocoa. But then that's all right. I hope you and your family are getting on quite well. Take care, @vcelier.
I'm understanding that the Giant was not good to others as we read in previous one. Now I'm waiting for the next part because it is full of thrill and somehow risky type. The people are happy and enjoying their lives but they don't know about the chaos coming in their life to end it. It's soo weird
Wow it's looking yumm. Enjoy
Did Allanic and Fistilou make the right choice by going into the castle? We'll see about that. They seem to be cannibals who have a special preference of eating christians.
They have become cannibals too by eating the foot of a Christian. Will their talents of playing the reed torch and their frolicking help them stay alive in the castle.
The chocolate is nice.
A fantasy world where cunning and fun play a crucial role. Fistilou and Allanic, inventive in the face of an obstacle, arouse the curiosity of the Goulaffre giantesses. The scene reveals a unique combination of humor and suspense as they try to hide from the hungry giant. The giantesses, lovers of entertainment, decide to keep the intruders as entertainers in their castle. The story leads to a surreal dinner that adds a comic touch to the plot, with the giant Goulaffre showing a mixture of curiosity and voracious appetite.
In the part three of the story we find out about the unforeseen twist in Allanic and Fistilou's adventure which led them to the castle of the giant Goulaffre. It is there where their talents brought amusement to the giant and his family, momentarily sparing them from a grim fate. Sometimes when things are at their worse, we can only keep our humor alive...
The story started as very interesting, with the two developing as a duo with their music and dancing. Arriving at the castle, it was still ok. The two ladies haven't left the castle were very appreciative of their performance. The mother was hesitant, but was nice to them as well. Then it took a horrifying turn when Goulaffre arrived. Not only was it revealed that he hated Christians, but that he eats them. For dinner, they were eating a human, and shared a foot to the two performers. I don't think I could have eaten that.
Wow!!!
I will not say that breaking the door into the garden is a good or bad decision. At first, I wanted to say it was a good decision because they ended up in a big home but at the same time, eating a Christian’s foot is what amazed me…
I guess if that is what they will continue to eat for the rest of their stay there. It is scary and I hope they don’t eat them. I wish to see how this will end
Nice story!
When they open and saw the two young ladies, they might have been blown away by the beauty of those ladies that it might really be difficult for them to resist them as I am just feeling for them. First time I will hear about this giantesses word. So there is also something called a female giant. I am just trying to imagine while reading this story how they will actually look like. Quite typical to be that they might not be accepted in the society. I have always been familiar with the male giant and probably it is because how I grow and become it
