THE GIANT GOULAFFRE

goulaffre_5.jpg
The seven-league boots.

The giant, roaring with anger, then took his seven-league boots and set out in pursuit of the fugitives. They were already far from the castle, but Goulaffre soon reached them. Seeing a large leg pass over their heads, with enormous boots, they said to themselves: "Here is the giant!" and they hid themselves under a large stone which was near there, and Goulaffre passed without seeing them. When they thought he was far away, they came out of their hiding place and continued on their way. Towards sunset, they arrived on a large moor dotted with enormous blocks of granite, isolated or piled on top of each other. Among the latter, they saw two large boots, then, further away at the bottom of a dark cave, something red and shiny, which resembled those old window panes called oeil-de-boeuf.

They approached, on tiptoe, and they recognized that it was Goulaffre who, tired from his pursuit, had stopped there to rest a little. The red, shiny object they saw at the bottom of the cave was its single eye. He was sleeping soundly. They remained for a few minutes considering him, and then Allanic said:

"If we could take off his seven-league boots! then we would laugh at him."

"Yes, but what if he wakes up?" replied Fistilou.

"He sleeps too well for that; listen to how much he snores! Let's try and see."

They took off one of his boots, without him moving; but as they pulled with all their strength on the second, the giant made a movement, and they thought themselves lost. Fortunately, he didn't wake up, and they were able to take it away from him too. Allanic then put on both boots and was about to leave, when the other said to him:

"And me? Are you going to leave me here now?"

"Get on my back, quickly!"

And there they go, one carrying the other.

When Goulaffre woke up and saw that he no longer had his boots, he uttered howls that frightened the animals three leagues around. He had to return to his castle without boots; when he arrived there, his feet were all bleeding.

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

Like in the tale "Le Petit Poucet", the Giant Goulaffre had seven-league boots. And Allanic stole the boots.

But this is not the end of the story. We will see in the next episodes that this tale is way longer than "Le Petit Poucet".

MORE SNOW

The snow stopped falling in the evening yesterday. I think that it was a total of 30 cm.

This morning, I measured 28 cm, but some of the snow had already disappeared.

Here are some pictures that I took this morning outside of our building.

The story is getting interesting the way we read this mother and son who were very wise and now we see that there are many challenges ahead for them but both of them are very wise at this time. and now these bots are very special and it is very important to take care of them and now they are off on an adventure but sadly after some time when they wake up from sleep They didn't have the boots they had and when they got back from their adventure, the feet they had were badly damaged and there was a lot of irritation going on inside the feet, so now they know it's going to run. To whom the boots are finally given and to whom they are taken will bring many more special things in the story.

I myself would love to live on top of a place where it snows, it's cold where we live but it doesn't snow.

It appears that the story of the Giant Goulaffre is far from over. With the mystical seven-league boots in Allanic's arms, there are sure to be many interesting adventures to come. It will be interesting to find out what will show up next and the way this fascinating story will spread.
I can not wait to look the way it evolves and what new challenges the characters will face.
I can't wait to study the following episodes and discover more approximately the awesome history of Lower Britain!

Beautiful photos.

This tale is actually getting tougher the more. Goulaffre has not yet learnt his lesson, he still wants to kill Allanic and Fistilou, I just hope he doesn't lose his life in the process.
Allanic and Fistilou are really having fun, they even have the mind to steal his boot. I can't wait to see how this story will end.

This is serious, the snow actually rained plenty, to have got up to 30CM from the ground.

Goulaffre is wroth and is breathing down threats on Allanic and Fistilou, the fugitives whom he's hunting down to destroy. So unfortunate that he didn't see them hiding under a large stone. Now they have stolen his boots and I get the feeling that if he doesn't stop his pursuit of the fugitives, he would be done for, someday.

This carpet of snow is always so beautiful, just like a covering of a white blanket.

Due to snow you have to suffered alot? Because peoples I think can't move outside and can't hold any outdoor activity as such like weather is quite nice.
From yesterday we have a good weather here. Sun is shining outside and we feels fresh and great hustle and bustle We see all around us.
If we talk about the story, I really admire there spirit that how they are behaving lightly with giant and how they sharply stole his boots and when he wake up, he was roaring with anger.
He was also feeling angry because due to both of them, he has to lost his daughters and now his feet was bleeding.
What will be the end?

The escape of the protagonists, pursued by an angry giant, takes us through an intriguing scenario. The fugitives hide under a rock with the ingenious plan of stripping the giant of his seven-league boots. The decision to take off his boots while he sleeps shows great bravery. The denouement, with the giant furious at discovering his loss, closes the story with a comic twist. In short, a story that combines elements of adventure and humor in a dream world.

What a beautiful landscape, all white. Almost 30 cm of powder snow. Makes you want to go skiing.

Goulaffre is on the way to his end because the way things are going, the fugitives, Allanic and Fistilou would first destroy him before he could, them.

They took his boots and now his feet are bleeding, who knows what they would do to him in their next encounter?

The sight of the snow everywhere always puts a smile on my face. It doesn't snow over here and I keep wishing I could experience this too.
But I often wonder what happens when all the ice melts and turns to water, what happens next? Do you have a flood?

But I often wonder what happens when all the ice melts and turns to water, what happens next? Do you have a flood?

No, no flood. 30 cm of snow is equivalent to 30 mm of rain.

Oh okay, now I understand. Thank you

The story is becoming interesting but I'm feeling sad that they are suffering alot as I know that as we love people or have the loved one's in our life we have to suffer for them because love demands sacrifices. They are doing for his daughter. And behaving brave with giant and handling the situation in a good way. Waiting for next.

The trees covered with snow is looking pretty nice but it's too cold. Weather is sunny cool over here wish you a good health enjoy.

Ooh wow
I’m really impressed by the boys smartness especially Allanic. I’m very surprised to see a giant trying to take a rest, lol. He was really tired indeed but I wonder how Allanic know that taking off his shoes was the best thing for him and also wearing them.
I wish to know the outside
I wish they succeed and maybe claim the properties of the giant Goulaffre

From the last part, I thought Allanic was smart, but from this part of the story, he was acting stupidly and risking too much for a laugh. It was a good thing Goulaffre didn't wake up, and they were able to get the boots. From their sizes, I am amazed that Allanic was able to use the boots. I was thinking it should have reached up to his thighs, and would be difficult to walk in. Goulaffre received more punishment, but I am curious what happens next.

They must have actually been afraid of the appearance of the giant at first that they were actually wondering what might have been wrong at the first instances that they just need to hide themselves of the stones behind. But I am still amazed how the giant was not actually been thrown away when first of all saw the size of it. The people must have really been terrifying to see the giant actually. They must have been able to also detect the appearance of Goulaffre at that particular time which goes beyond that also. Those guys must have really been taking huge risk for them to have actually tried to take his boot off even when he was sleeping and they were not actually afraid what may happen or probably if he wakes up at that particular time and caught them in that act. They must have actually been dead and dead for long. This is not actually supposed to be so. "When Goulaffre woke up and saw that he no longer had his boots, he uttered howls that frightened the animals three leagues around. He had to return to his castle without boots; when he arrived there, his feet were all bleeding" I am just trying to also imagine how this scenario will be when he wake up form the sleep.

THE GIANT GOULAFFRE: In their daring escape from the giant Goulaffre, who pursued them in his furious rage with seven-league boots, the fugitives cleverly evade detection by hiding under a stone. As they venture into a moor filled with granite blocks, they discover Goulaffre's discarded boots and a shiny object resembling his eye in a cave. Seizing an opportunity, they successfully remove the boots while Goulaffre rests, hoping to outsmart him. Although a close call occurs when the giant stirs, they manage to escape unnoticed. Allanic dons the coveted seven-league boots, leaving Fistilou behind. Goulaffre, upon awakening and realizing his loss, howls in anguish, and with bleeding feet, he is forced to return to his castle. The fugitives, having outwitted the giant, triumphantly carry away the prized boots as they continue their journey.
Too much snow there, so cold.

We had snow here too.

Wave Media

i love ice.

30 centimeters of snow is a lot I hope it is not causing problems any mayor problems, a friend who lives in Canada was explaining to me the other day all the troubles that come with snow, freezing doors, change tires, sometimes put chains depending where you live, for cars that remain outside better is to put up a tend, its a lot of trouble having that kind of weather

Such snow is a great joy for children and additional work for adults.

The giant been angry I am just wondering what will be his state. He must really be looking so terrifying and frightening to look at. Goulaffre with his long stretch leg, I was sure that he will definitely reach those fugitive and even over take them so I was not really surprised he was able to eventually meet them at the long run. He must have really ran so fast notwithstanding also. The fugitives must have really been so much happy to have seen that the giant didn't see them and they must also have been lucky because the truth of the matter is, assuming he met them over there, it will have really been their last day on earth which will not be good. If we could take off his seven-league boots! then we would laugh at him." They must really been taking a quite huge risk to have consider doing that actually. What of if he eventually wake up during the process and caught them. That might have really been devastating to them actually.
