RE: One Thousand and One Nights: Aladdin and the Magic Lamp: 25th Night

in #story2 years ago

This passage can be viewed as the concept of power and its corrupting influence. Aladdin, as the master of the genie, has immense power and is able to fulfill Sultan's demands with ease. However, this power also puts him in a position where he can easily become corrupt and selfish, using the genie for his own gain rather than for the greater good. Similarly, Sultan's demand for such an extravagant dowry shows how power and wealth can lead to a sense of entitlement and extravagance, blinding one to the needs and realities of the common people. Can Good be bad? I think yes, especially when "wealth" plays the main role. I hate this word anyway. Because it is connected with money and goods instead of health and good being.
