Banana cue or banana kyu is a popular snack in the Philippines. This is mostly eaten as an afternoon snack and is sometimes served as dessert.
This is considered as one of the all-time best selling street food in the Philippines. It is an affordable sweet treat, as bananas are always in season in our country and are easy to grow.
A banana cue is simply made from cardaba or saba bananas, a kind of banana that grows in many tropical Asian countries like the Philippines, rolled in a brown sugar and then deep fried. It is usually skewered on a bamboo stick and is sold on the streets. This healthy-delicious snack can be eaten anywhere and anytime of the day. It is an excellent source of energy.
This is sweet, crunchy and gooey… A perfect snack for those who have sweet tooth!
Here’s a quick and easy recipe for you.
You’ll need:
10pcs. saba banana
2 cups brown sugar
Cooking oil
Procedure:
- In a pot, heat oil until boil.
- Add the bananas and deep fry for 3-5 minutes.
- Add the brown sugar then put heat on low, and cook for another 5 minutes
- Allow the sugar to melt, and then move the bananas around to have it coated with caramelized sugar.
- Remove from pot one piece at a time and place it in a strainer, allowing the excess oil to drip.
- Skewer the bananas and enjoy!
Wow... it seems to much delicious. I'd love to taste it, but for that I need to go to Philippines,
