To Sea, To Sea, we go!
Tied up alongside the Derby Wharf Pier, downtown Salem harbor, its easy to see ships of old, the schooners, clippers and old fishing vessels, that plied these waters. I can hear the creaking of planks as ships rocked at anchor, or the strech of line as ropes went taught with the rising tides and swells coming ashore.
To Sea, To Sea
Above, the shipwrights made acres of sail in this old building. Some vessels alone called for acres. And here, where masters would come to buy a new set or have repairs made.
Left, the old heavy iron cleans, for tying up alongside the quay.
