On our recent trip to Paris, we spent a day wandering Montmartre. Starting with breakfast at an outdoor cafe near Sacre Cour, to the Montmartre Museum, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The shot below was heading down the hill back towards our hotel in Vendome, which I thought captured the spirit of Montmartre.
I fell in love with the outdoor cafes and ate as many meals as possible sitting at street side tables with a good view for people watching. Montmartre has always been an artist community and there were many street artists looking to sketch your portrait for you for a fee. My wife still has one from Montmartre from when she visited as a teenager. We saw some interesting graffiti in Montmartre. One I recognized was by the street artist called Invader, who has placed video game inspired tile art in major cities around the world.
I thought this stencil graffiti of David Bowie was particularly cool.
We passed the famous Moulin Rouge theatre as we walked down the hill. You may remember the movie musical inspired by this theatre.
This was a particularly steep street that reminded me a little of San Francisco.

It feels great to see Paris again! I've been there, saw these places, took a lot of photos and lost them all.
It was my first time. I had a blast!
It's memorable for sure!
Such an interesting post, the photos are beautiful, especially the first one!

Thanks!
Yes, Montmartre is quite unique. When I visited Paris, I hung out in Quartier Latin, which I prefer.
Next time, try going south. Have you ever been to Toulouse?
Lovely photos, by the way!
I did not go south, but hopefully next time I’ll get there. Thanks!
Fantastic photos. You have captured it so well, and it brings back good memories!
Thanks Melinda!
