The Great Aletsch Glacier - the longest glacier in the European Alps. Sticking out like a tongue, this immense river of ice is quite intimidating. At first sight, to me it looked like a highway covered in ice. But no highway could possibly be 1.6km wide and 940m thick. The picture is taken from Bettmerhorn peak at around 2800m, from where you could still see the turquoise crevasses down below, reminding you who's boss. The glacier is shrinking dramatically each year.
