When traveling along the streets of South Africa in rural areas (far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities) you may be in for a big surprise.
Around the corner is a Nyala, quietly having a browse on the side path next to the street, keeping the verge neat. What a handsome male, appears to be still quite young, not in the herd out on his own, unless the others were hiding deeper in the thick vegetation.

When they browse like this they don't normally run, are very aware of you being there. Smaller buck not so much they take flight into the bush very quickly.

Love their spots with banded legs, look like garters holding socks up, always slow down for a good look.
Amazing that you'll just come across such animals while driving. Must be a pretty regular occurrence, or not?
Yes @daan often see Warthog and Impala alongside the road, on occasion Kudu. My brother had an experience in a different region, where a Kudu jumped high fencing, proceeded to jump clean over the car to get onto other side of the road where he was going.

Wow that is quite an encounter. Here we could only encounter goats and cows on the road sides. Seems like there is a large population of them in your area.
Depends on where you are driving, we have enough cows and goats on the road side as well @watersnake101 thanks for visitng.
So cool that you spotted this little guy just chilling on the side of the road. Here in the city the only thing we spot is people and occasionally a pigeon.
Not very fond of any city @jusipassetti we do not see as much as we used to in our area with humans developing more.

I am always amazed by your great hot of unique animals, @joanstewart. If you every want to try it, I think you could be doing picture books or childrens' books with your photos and knowledge. You would need a good number of them for success, but you have the material and then you would get fairly passive revenue.
