in #streetphotography6 years ago

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

Through my entry for today´s #streetphotography contest hosted by @juliank, I would like to show you another famous and important building of my beautiful Czech hometown of Opava, the city hall.

Located on the Upper Square ("Horni Namesti" in the Czech language) in the historic center of the city, the city hall is also known as the clock tower or the city tower and it is one of the most dominant landmarks of the city.

The very origin of the building dates back to the early 14th century when there was a wooden tower standing on the site. In the 16th century, however, the wooden tower was destroyed by a devastating windstorm and it was replaced with a new tower that was made from stone. The current appearance of the building came of an extensive reconstruction in 1903.

Since 1945, this impressive piece of architecture has been serving as the official seat of the municipal authority of the city of Opava. With a height of 60 m (almost 200 ft), the top of the tower offers some breathtaking views of the city. The lookout is open to public every Saturday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. and the entrance fee is just 30 CZK (approximately 1 EUR or 1 USD). I have not been up there yet but I am planning to do that soon and I will definitely share the panoramic photos I will take there with you ;)

That's a beautiful tower! I'm looking forward to seeing the photos from the top once you are able to go there. How come you have never been in the tower if this is your home town?

Well, that is a good question :) I have been to quite a lot of places in the past couple of years but somehow not up there :) As they say, the darkest place is under the candlestick :D But I will climb up there to take those shots for you, I promise ;)

Hehe, it's funny how we often end up juts procrastinating going to places like this that are close to our homes. I have some places like this on my own that I've always wanted to visit, but always think that I will visit next year ;)

It's an interesting and impressive building @phortun. Without your post I would have guessed it was a hotel. 😊

Haha that would be a nice hotel! :D

great work!! and a pleasure having you in the "group".

Thank you! It is a pleasure and honor for me that you accepted me guys ;)

This building is no less than a phenomenon and the architecture is just second to none. Wonderful street photography. Made the building look so rare and precious and so it is. Brilliant shot and a unique view.

Thank you for this nice comment ;)
