Street Photography Contest Week 04 — Theme: Elderly People — Entry 2 — Chess Open

No, this is neither a Fischer–Spassky match, nor is Korchnoi–Petrosian — but it was no less exciting! It was Belgrade street life, Kalemegdan Fortress after the rain, when retirees got a chance to stage Chess Open – in the open!

Did he taught you to play chess @beautifulsky?

Yes, everyday he was teaching me, and i was feeling great playing with him. :)

I love when older people gather and then spend their time wisely instead of procrastinating at come. Nicely captured moment of concentrated faces, i be they even did not notice you were taking a shot :)

Actually, they did notice me, and they thought I was some stranger diseased with photomania :))) But they were concentrated on the game until I spoke up and explained… Then the guy whose back you see on this photo, smiled, pulled out his Nikon D200 and a stack of photographs… :)

Thank you very much @bescouted, for your kind words and support.

Really? :) As far as i see there are more and more people that have photomania :)

This is it :D Great shot!

Thank you very much @bonggita, glad you like it :)

Super images! a pleasure to upvote and follow! Good luck in the contest!

Thank you very much for your kind words and support @ilanaakoundi.

Beautifully captured, and beautiful in monochrome! This reminds me of the old guys on Jerez de la Frontera, who would play dominoes at the cafes. Great image!

Thank you very much @fotosdenada, I'm very glad you like it.

I did some street photography when I lived in Spain, but it always felt invasive with a DSLR. Have you looked at those Fuji x-100 cameras? Think they're on the fourth or fifth iteration now. If they weren't so expensive...

I'm still a bit short for FujiFilm X-100f, which is really beautiful little camera. “Expensive” is relative my dear @fotosdenada. X-100f is $1200 and only the lens for Leica, Summicron 35mm f2 is $2000.

Very true, but Leica has always been out of reach for most of us :P On the other hand, $2,000 isn't all that bad for high quality glass, and there are some specialty lenses that go for a lot more. Nikon has an old fisheye with a 210º field of view, or something insane like that. Limited copies still exist, and it usually goes between $40K - $100K!

Seems a very old picture .. Such a mysterious game chess is !

It was almost four years ago. But the mood is so early 20 Century :)

Very right ! I meant the same.. its wonderful to make a recent picture look a century old !

Kalemegdan chess players <3

Chess is a wonderful game!

Still can't find a better one :)
