Fifth grade students in South Carolina were given an assignment where they were asked to imagine what it would be like being a member of the KKK during the Civil War.
A teacher at Oak Pointe Elementary school in Irmo has been put on administrative leave after an uncle of one of the students posted a photo of the assignment on Facebook.
Tremain Cooper wrote in a post: "This is my little 10-year-old nephew's homework assignment today. He's home crying right now."
One question on the assignment asks why the students think the treatment of African Americans is justified as a member of the KKK.
The school district says it is taking the matter very seriously.
